Prof Smith really loves comm and relays that in his lectures. Don't understand why there's any negative reviews. His expectations are clear and wants to make sure all students become better writers. Very nice guy and not too difficult of a class. His lectures appeal to both journalism and PR people. Has a lot of professional speakers come!

Comment:
Roger Smith's class was ridiculous for all the wrong reasons. The course it self was way too much work for a 1 credit class. His lectures are all improv'ed and overall, not very informative. He goes off on random stories he's read online and is incredibly harsh on grades. Don't. Forget. To. Upload. Seriously, it'll ruin your grade. Avoid Mr. Smith.

If you are not interested in Radio don't take this class. He is very passionate about this class and you will learn a lot about Radio in it. If you do the work, you will pass.

Professor Smith is a great professor only if you are actually interested in Radio Media. If you are taking the class just for the easy credit, then he will pick up on that. It is an easy class that you learn a lot from if you put the effort in. There are assignments and attendance is recorded at the start of each class.

Good professor overall. I did very well in the class bc I showed interest and got involved me. Just do the work and you'll be fine. People fail this class because they don't do the work. Attendance towards end of semester becomes laxed, but if you don't turn your stuff in you'll see your grades suffer

A lot of people say the class is a lot of work and what not. If you're interested in the radio then this is a great class for you. I think Rod is a pretty cool dude and we have great discussions in my class.

He tries, but he is very difficult. He always seems to challenge anything that goes against what he believes. Way too much work for a one credit class. 4-6 hours out of class work.

I took 148 & 348 with him and while he may be a nice guy, his grading is very inconsistent. If you take him keep track of ALL of your graded assignments! He WILL **** up your grade & you WILL need to find him and make him change it! Happened to me both semesters. I ended up getting an A, but had I not said something I'd have gotten a C.

Ok, its a 1 credit class. You spend 1 hour in the studio a week. A 3 credit asks for 3 hours of work so be serious its college. He tries too hard to be funny but he's not a bad dude. Do the work youll be graded appropriately though it does seem inconsistant.

If you dont know anything about radio or recording radio equipment, DO NOT TAKE HIM! Such an AWFUL professor! I wanted to explore different paths of journalism so i took the introductory class to radio. He favors those who already know radio stuff and doesnt care to help those who dont leaving them in the dust and enjoys picking on them

An easy A. Basically if you have an interest in being on the air this class just gives you an outlet to learn whatever you want. If you're uninterested, it's pretty easy to BS your way through the thing. If you show Roger an ounce of interest and respect, he'll really help you out a lot. He's a good guy.

He seems to know his stuff but a lot of class discussion has nothing to do with college radio. Pretty easy class if you're motivated. Don't expect WGMU to be like your typical college radio station, though. The format is disappointingly mainstream.

This professor thinks that he is God's gift to radio. He's totally in love with himself and the sound of his own voice. His lectures are barely interesting, surprising for a radio class. Overall, he is pretty competent, but I really didn't like his teaching method. The class is an easy A though, so if you don't mind him, the class is fine.

i think he's pretty nice, his comm 399 sports class is very interesting. his humor is what makes the class fun for me. although i must say that i took his comm 148 class and didnt like that, so maybe its just the way he teaches certain classes...

Real Practical Class. The sales presentation you can use for your portfolio. two case study assignments which wern't too bad. Attendance isnt mandatory, but there are 5 unannounced quizzes. Exams are all from class notes and books. He clearly spells out all assignments on webct, and updates it all the time. Great class

K, he definately plays the favorites game. He tries to help, or at least look like he is trying, but I still don't know how objective his grading was. I am very unclear what the criteria are for a good tape and a bad tape. Take the class if you are willing to put sometime into developing your studio skills.
