Even though this is an introductory class, it is really hard if you don't already know Java. I came in with no programming experience and I found it extremely difficult. If you are a high school senior thinking of taking this class I would suggest spending the summer learning how to program with java. I think I would have been much better off.

Great teacher; I'm currently taking him again for Discrete Math. I thought 1043 was fairly easy, but I think some people had trouble with it.

Sometimes during class he would just rant about random things that had nothing to do with the subject. Never used Childress's ppts, but always his tests. Hope you don't have a class after his because you'll always be late.

Pay attention in class if you don't already know what you're doing in programming. Wainwright uses a lot of Childress's material, but the way that he explains is different (and made more sense to me). The labs are hard, but Wainwright is a very approachable outside of class, go talk to him he will explain things differently and help you a lot.

Dr. Wainwright is living proof that with age comes wisdom. He takes Computer Science and makes it engaging and funny with his stories about how he programmed when he was in school. He is very knowledgeable and accessible. If you don't understand something, ASK HIM. He will help you for as long as it takes. Phenomenal professor.

Good professor, sometimes talks about things that aren't necessary to learn the topic. Will be discussing a lesson and then say "but that's not how you do it" and can become slightly confusing. Important to keep up with the lectures using a Java textbook and there aren't very descriptive outlines online for each lecture. Nice and genuine guy though

This class was wonderful! I did not have to go in for help but I am sure he would've helped anyone. He answered questions in class and gave 4 homework assignments that really helped. Pay attention in class.

Great teacher. Makes the material very clear and I highly recommend him. I'll be taking as many classes with him again as possible. All tests are the exact same from year to year for the most part.

Took discrete math with Wainwright. Awesome teacher, makes the subject extremely easy to understand. Plenty of examples so you understand the application of the theories taught. Make sure to go to class, because it is possible to fall behind, and is way harder to teach it to yourself with a teacher as good as Wainwright.

He is absolutely the best professor at the University. He is clear, helpful, gives lots of sample problems. His exams are always straightforward and the homework and projects are clearly stated and well defined. I am taking as many of his classes as I can.

take the advice of a senior... Wainwright is hands down best prof in science and math. only prof out of 4 years of study where i learned from him entirely rather than 100% from text. His class is genius... you have to know all material to get tests, but tests are easy if you know material.. and he assigns hw to make it easier. he is also nicest

This is my last math course for my math bachelors. It really made me brush up on a few forgotten concepts. Learned some graph theory stuff, interesting! This guy is a wonderful prof and he wants you to learn and do good. Doty, Oneil, Constanda, Wainwright, Coberly, these guys are the best profs ever! i love TU math

If you took a discrete math course in the past, then this'll be an easy A. If you haven't, the best thing you can do is just pay attention and absorb the material. You don't even need the textbook. And try to get some old exams if you can because he follows them very closely.

Very entertaining and tries to be clear, just don't takes notes verbatim or you'll get worn out. Homework is straightforward, but before a test, make sure you study ALL the material covered, not just the hw problems.

Good professor overall. Tries to be helpful when clearing up material, but often just doesn't comprehend why you don't understand the material when he taught it the first time.

I've had him every semester from the beginning of freshman year till the end of Junior year and begged him to teach more classes. Great teacher for anything undergrad, a lot tougher for any graduate level classes he teaches, but all around very good at helping students learn and understand. One of the best I've ever had.
