He is a great teacher. Yes, he will ramble a lot..but a lot of what he says are on his test. He is very lenient and helpful for those who come to class. He will curve his test and doesn't like to see his students fail. A lot of the reading is also on his test. Read if you want a fair grade.

sociological theory is extremely boring. he'll ramble for about 30 minutes without actually making a point, so i guess that's kind of impressive. the class itself isn't difficult, but it's pretty difficult to make yourself go.

Dr althouse is a great professor, his tests are very hard but he curves it so much that it changes your whole grade-he is VERY helpful and cares about his students-boring class but he will help you

Very concerned about his students. Super great guy, very helpful. Also REALLY intelligent. I liked the material so i did well, but its not an easy class. He doesn't want anyone to fail. He is probaly my favorite prof--super interesting to talk to, he really knows his stuff.

As people have mentioned above, he does ramble a bit. Then again, the course material itself is a bit...shall we say, rough? However, he truly is a great person. He'll do anything for you, all you have to do is ask. He even makes a point to make sure you're doing ok in other classes. The part about curving grades is true also. Just give him a try.

the material is sometimes boring, but he's incredibly nice and helpful. just ask questions - you'll get clear answers. and read the book? pass the tests? no big deal. i don't know anyone in the department who'd do a better job.

I can't believe this is required for Soc. majors. It is the worst class I've taken. He rambles and there is no class participation. His study guide is worthless. The Soc. Department needs to get someone else to teach this class or change the requirements for graduating. This class is a total waste.

Ok, this class was BORING!!! All you heard about was his research, his research, his research. Tests and assignments were not promptly graded nor returned. Did he even look at them? Did we even learn how to write a survey? Hummm . . I'm not sure, since the class is MIND NUMBING!!!!!

He's a very intelligent guy, but VERY boring. He's nice on a personal level, though. The tests are hard, but he curves them a lot. I got an B in the class, but I didn't really learn anything. It's just boring material. He likes to keep you late, too.

Althouse is good. You couldn't follow him in the dark with a lantern, however, no one else can either so it all evens out. He really cares about students and treats everyone special.

His Lectures are boring and he rambles a lot. But if you take this class. He does not fail anyone. He curves the tests so the lowest possible grade is a C. Its not an easy A, but you can easily get a B. He is really nice if you go up and talk to him
