Professor Anker was really helpful in pinpointing the areas of need in my writing. His assignments were mostly based on films, which really engaged us. They also required higher order thinking, which taught me to think more creatively. He's also funny.

Solid prof. He teaches writing through the mistakes you make on previous papers. He is bad with technology but very helpful with your papers.

He's a great guy. Tough grader. The only A I ever got on the paper was the last one I wrote. But as a prof, he's super helpful. He genuinely wants you to become a better writer, and I feel like I've accomplished that this semester.

He seems pretty tough at the beginning of the semester, but just do what he wants you to do in your writings (no passive voice, transitions...) and you'll do fine in his class. He genuinely cares about his students becoming better writers.

Anker is a great English prof for those who are not trying to become English majors. He gets distracted, is terrible with technology, butt is super funny and has you watch movies all semester that you write simple essays on. I suggest you take him. Also, he talks like Batman, so that's pretty cool too.

Anker is hard. Tough grader. You will do nothing at all in class. He gets very easily distracted. You will watch a few movies and write 5 essays that he is very particular about. Tough class, funny guy

Prof Anker was awful! He never made any sense in any of his lectures and would go off on tangents often. He very tough on grading papers. There were about 8 books that we had to read in the semester long class. I recommend anyone taking a Literature class to avoid Anker!

Great Prof, had 2 classes now. If you want to learn and actually do the work, take him1 Intimidating at first, but a BFG. Meet with him in the beginning of the semester to correctly approach the class, and keep in contact with him, he' a wonderful prof who cares alot about his students. Lectures are often random and entertaining to say the least.

No busy work, this guy's all business. Seems harsh at first, but after a few papers you understand that he's not that tough. He'll help if you ask, but he easily gets off topic.

He's easy, if you can figure him out. Not helpful, too many tangents, which he claims are "necessary." A great guy, but not a brilliant professor.

Easily the worst professor I've had at Calvin. Obvious that he didn't care about teaching, nor did he care to relate whatever he said to American Literature. Avoid.

He's not very clear what he wants and is really nit picky about things! However, going to class isn't required and is a waste of time for the most part! No quizzes or tests, your grades are based solely on about 5 papers you have to write.
