Great professor. You should learn basic grammar before coming to class though because you will be docked a lot of points. Do your papers slowly and go to office hours if you don't know how to write it. If you talk to him he will literally guide you through writing your papers and his dos and don'ts of writing are pretty clear. Be prepared to work.

Horrible professor. He is the hardest grader I have ever had. His papers have a zillion rules that are not normal. Do not take his class! I have a B+ average and I didn't even pass this class.

Professor Laird is tough especially when it comes to assignments. Get ready to work for your marks! However, Laird is incredibly smart. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met. If you ever get the chance to take one of his classes do it. He is incredibly inspirational and he likes to tell clever jokes. He is also very helpful if you ask.

Very difficult. Doesn't use any slides and as a result clarity suffers. Assignments are not a valid measure of course understanding.

Very difficult. I loved learning about Medieval history, now after his class I kind of hate it. Really tough marker. Takes marks off for anything. If you like a challenge then go for it, but be warned, he is very smart, but also VERY pompous. Don't bother try to ask him questions,I did and was made to feel like an idiot for even asking the question.

Very harsh marker, very strict and likes to take marks off for anything. Lies about what will and will not be on the final exam. If you like a challenge or just really like medieaval history, good class, but it's definitely not a bird course with him.

Although a history teacher much of your grade will depend on following his ridiculous rules of English. He was often unavailable for me and extremely rude in his ego-centric attitude. I feel like he is intentionally setting up students for failure. I put alot of effort into the coarse and received little reward. I Would recommend to avoid him.

If you are interested in history, actually want to learn something & don't want to be coddled. Take this class. This prof is criticized because his expectations are high. If you're in university you should embrace constructive critsism from a learned man. He beleives that you are capable of meeting his expecations.

Everything he says you could read at home from the text, or go to the lecture and not read at all really. Very harsh marker, has many rules that are pretty ridiculous. Does not allow laptops or tablets under any circumstances. Very pretentious man. Stay away if you can, unless you like working really hard for little reward.

Worst Proff. Good luck getting a percent out of this guy in office hours. He is a wealth of information but talks to fast to get it down. Unless you know a Phd in English who while proof your papers he will kill you on Grammar. its worth 30% of paper grade. Ie I got a 75% on a paper and he literally tallied the errors up to 30%. 1 error=1 percent

Difficult class. He talks very fast, doesn't post many lectures & only lets you write, no typing or tablets allowed. Discussion group helped. Essays were difficult as was the final. He was brilliant though, and knew the info. inside out. Only recommended if you're a fast writer who's great at essays & history.

If you want to learn, to know something, take anything he teaches. But, realize that it is up to you to learn it, not him - no hand holding, no easy shortcuts, just your own self determination, blood, sweat and tears. Many tears. I am all the better thanks to him, though.
