He has won all sorts of awards because he is friends with lots of poets and he is really grate and he will tell you all sorts of stuff about literature that you have never ever heard about and it is really interesting even if it is so totally hard to understand. Really makes you love English.

Miki's course changed my life. He's the most insightful teacher on issues of race, culture and theory that I've ever had. He's both a poet and an "engaged" intellectual -- one who is involved in important political issues outside the classroom. Take a class with him before he retires if you have any interest in race, feminism or the avant-garde.

I took English 105 last year, and I found it rather interesting. I like how Miki explores the unexplored, but he tends to leave the students with utter confusion. But the class was interesting, we got to see the Matrix films, and Gattaca, and all. The novel, "Salt Fish Girl" was very boring. But, I hear he's retiring...

THIS MAN IS AMAZING! You talk about things that affect your every day lives. Sure we watched the Matrix and Gattaca, but I learned a lot... and I'm not into the space stuff, so that's saying something.

If you are like me, and are forced to take at least one English course (for business), then take ENGL 105 with Miki, it had little reading. He is confusing, talks about deep things that I don't understand nor care about. Seems like a great guy though. Marks totally depend on your TA, try to be nice to them.

One of the few instructors to encourage creativity in written assignments. He can be intimidating at first, but as long as you ask questions, express an opinion in class, and try to dig deeper into the texts, you will do fine. He really makes you think and I learned from that.

Roy is better in a seminar class than lecture. His knowledge of Can Lit is amazing, albeit quite focussed on Asian-Can Lit. He *can* be a tough marker, but only because he expects quality. He let me do a re-write and I went from C to A-. He can appear abrupt at times, but he's been at this 30 yrs.

Boring, boring, boring. Tries to impress undergrads with stories of his friendship with a lot of loser Canadian poets nobody knows or reads. Skip it.

Classes very boring and not worth going to. He is very set in his opinion and even fought with a guest lecturer over one of the his poems. Class and exam was fairly easy.

Just skip the lectures. There's no point going, especially if he's not your TA. If he is your TA, maybe go to score some points with him. Picks books written by his buddies so that we have to buy them. Seems cute at first, but gets boring very quickly. Wrecks an interesting subject.

Mean, opinionated, and refuses to help his students. This class is an English take on Sociology - pity he appears to know nothing about sociology though. Very hard marker, admittedly so - STAY AWAY and ignore the positive reviews.

Full of character, Roy Miki was definitely a plus to this Poetry course. He conducts the course with genuine interest, with guest speakers (conveniently, his poet friends) and audio/video material.

Dr. Miki, marry me and have my hybrid babies!Roy treats upper division classes like upper division classes, letting us come to an understanding of complicated theory terms (uhm, hybridity anyone?) on our own through examinations of interesting literat
