Comment:

Sure he's a great guy, but his lectures are sooo pointless! IDK what i've learned in his class. Its true that he rambles about his personal life 80% of the time. He isn't clear on what's due or what any of the upcoming assignments are. He passes around books he's published, and he seems like he has too much going on to keep up with anything.

Although Ruben is an incredible nice professor, he always seems to have too much on his plate. His assignments are almost never clarified and he never responds to student emails for assistance. The course title was Archaeology and Sustainability but the entire course was a study of garbage. Get ready to do a lot of irrelevant assignments.

He rambles on about his personal life for most of the class. You also don't know your grade until the end of the semester. What I hated the most was that there was this guy in the class who was friends with the professor and didn't do most of the work. So this guy hardly did anything and got an A!!!!

Dr.Mendoza is an intelligent man, YES, but does he want you to actually learn from him? No. It appears that what he wants is just to impress you. He rambles about his personal life 80% of the time, never tells you about upcoming assignments, rarely replies to e-mails, and grades everything late. I have yet to learn anything substantial from him.

Comment:

Dr.Mendoza is a great man, he is intelligent and has a lot of experience in his field. Every time I emailed him I got a response or he addressed the question during the next class session. His T.A. did a good amount of his grading so it is hard to say if he is a tough grader. He does in fact talk a lot about himself but it is always class related.

He is impossible to contact, rambles during every boring lecture about his life outside of school instead of talking about the actual subject, which makes his assignments extremely hard to complete, and his class difficult to navigate and pass. He's late with everything but strict on deadlines. Two classes with him were two too many!!!!!

Ruben is the most interesting and driven guy you will ever meet. Digging is his life and he does it well. He is great at getting work at the school and other digs. Ruben has many connections and credibility in the field It is amazing to do things on-site and know that the data you collect will be utilized in real world aplications and restorations

HORRIBLE teacher! More interested in his research than being a professor. Takes weeks to months to email back. Very smart in the subject because that is all he does. Accused of cheating and fabricating emails falsely. HORRIBLE TEACHER. Just go do your digging

Damn smart! SBS students should know that they have a goldmine in Baldwin & Co. They all thrive on interaction, so participate and an incredible wealth of knowledge will be free for the taking. Keep him on track and you'll learn a lot. Don't always agree w/him, but that's a good thing. If you want to be spoonfed concepts, browse a JuCo catelog

Mendoza is an anthropologist and he defends the field like any other anthropologist, even though he knows it's crap. He teaches straight from the textbook and doesn't deviate from the "official" story. Doesn't present challenging material, but does go on tangents about his trips and has some interesting pictures.

Ruben is my favorite professor here, he's a VERY understanding guy - you can turn in papers late and he won't mind, but DON'T do it often! He is extremely articulate and wise, goes off on interesting tangents about his archaeology background, and has the corniest sense of humor. Thursdays are reserved for guest speakers. SUPER WONDERFUL GUY.

Don't believe the rumors - please get your facts straight before you end up doing to him what you're saying he did (libel). This professor stands up for the underdog and ends up getting gossiped about which is unfair. He's an awesome teacher - tells great stories, takes great photos and is very fair.
