Rusty is now retired, but he was the best prof I ever had. He was genuinely interested in the well-being and marks of his students. His slideshows were full of pictures from his own travels around the world (he would travel instead of going to a library during sabbatical). I would take this class again in a heartbeat.

Make's the class extremely interesting. He know's what he's talking about and love's the topic of history. Doesn't stick to the syllabus, If a test is scheduled for a certain day expect it to come early. Also don't be late for his class, he won't let you in.

Rusty's a brilliant prof & excellent lecturer. He's a pretty good guy too with a sense of humour. He loves what he teaches. Don't be late, and he doesn't want students leaving class. Regular pop quizzes are an incentive to keep up with course material. Maps on quizzes aren't great. Keep up with readings & don't leave papers until the last minute.

Dr. Bitterman is a brilliant professor: extremely knowledgable, enticing, well-traveled, and approachable. His lectures are captivating and nicely structured. He is very accommodating and reasonable (however, don't be late!). His approach to history is fresh and relevant, and he is one of the kindest men aroun. Would recommend unconditionally.

He let me in without any prior history classes, just recommended I read a general history book. Great seminar-discussion style class. Very heavy reading which was difficult to keep on and difficult early morning time slot. He's very nice and you'll be rewarded if you do the readings and participate. Has interesting stories to tell.

Dr. Bittermann is a fantastic professor. He creates a positive atmosphere for in-class discussion, and delivers any criticisms in a kind and constructive manner. He goes above and beyong for his students, and he is intentional about mentoring gifted students and preparing them for future study. I would absolutely recommend taking a course with him.

Definitely one of the best profs I have ever taken a class with. If you love history you will love Rusty! He is so enthusiastic and genuinely concerned about his students progress. Also, he knows his stuff. Has been everywhere for research and has done lots of academic writing! He is all about broad concepts, not just facts. Take his classes!

Rusty is an incredible professor who asks you to think for yourself. The people who are angry with his method of teaching (you know who you are) were not willing to listen to new perspectives and took the class in order to impress people with their knowledge. The hater attitude has nothing to do with the prof. and everything to do with the student.

This professor does not appreciate or allow the materialist conception of history. He will fail you despite his own syllabus making no dedication to any historical perspective. He is unwilling to justify grades with respect to the syllabus. Do not take a course with him if you are intelligent or want to learn about revolution.

Dr. Bittermann is one of the most knowledgeable people I have come across. He's also great for nuancing information- you won't get generalizations from him, unless they are acknowledged as such. He can be a stickler for punctuality, but this isn't a bad thing. Moreover, he's great about looking over drafts and giving feedback. Highly recommended.

Rusty is a ridiculous marker. After the third B, I asked him to justify the grade. He told me every program has some courses that you can not get a high grade in. When I asked him what I should improve, he had nothing. When I asked if I could submit a draft for feedback, the answer was no.

Rusty is a great prof! His quizzes are usually pretty simple and easy marks, and also it encourages people to go to class. No doubt he knows his information, and is always willing to explain things more or help you out whenever he can. If you leave you cant come back in, but it is distracting with people doing that, so i know what he means.

Rusty is a great prof! He expects a lot from his students but you will be rewarded when you put real effort into your essay and quizzes. Also, if you e-mail him or talk to him about anything in his lectures or music at the beginning of the year, he will remember you for the whole year and be more lenient when marking because he knows you're interes

Dr. Bitterman is a good prof, but he is clearly interested in some things more than others. He is helpful with papers, interested in how everyone is doing, and a genuinely nice man. He is a stickler for time, so if you aren't on time, go home. Many pop quizzes, but they are easy marks with 10 minutes of review. :)

Contrary to what many have said about this man, he is really far from what many should define as a good professor. He is rather clear, but completely useless as far as getting help on assignments. Very strict too. If you're a minute late, or need to go to the bathroom, just leave and don't come back. Also a very pompous and arrogant man.

Bitterman's a great guy. He gives back exactly what is given by his students. If you engage and ask questions he will remember you. Deadlines are strict. Pop-quizes are VERY important to your mark! And if you drank to much coffee before class forget about going to the washroom and coming back! Nice guy yet constraining classroom at times.
