I learned a lot from Professor Solie. I liked her teaching style and felt like she took the time to make sure I understood the material. She's a hard grader but I felt that I got a fair grade in the class.

Though I agree that Prof. Solie has great knowledge in the art of music, I have to say that she poorly conveys it in the class. She is very unclear and stubborn. the only way to learn anything from her is to meet her outside the class. Where you will find that she will insult your intelligence if you ask her questions regarding the material.

Solie seems to use her vast breadth of knowledge of the subject for fault-finding, nitpicking, hair-splitting, etc, instead of making any helpful suggestions for improvement. I wouldn't recommend her.

She is not outwardly enthusiastic, but I think that she sincerely loves her subject (music), and she is very knowledgeable. Understated and reserved, but kind and helpful.
