Ryan has so much wisdom in writing and he has an answer for anything. He gives you criticism to improve your writing in a useful way. He sees patterns that you didn't and knows the potential of the piece. Sad that I missed some of his classes but still so inspired by him. Recommend him without hesitation. Love this man & his fascinating lectures.

Thoroughly enjoyed this class. If you're keen on inproving your writing, Ryan gives solid and specific advice on how to improve. I was worried I would be critiqued quite harshly, but he was fair. My most enjoyable class at Cap. Be prepared for entertaining lectures. I wish I had taken better notes.

I had a great time. Ryan doesn't sugar coat, so don't expect anything but the truth. I learned a lot from this class and he gave my writing a lot of confidence. Basically, don't show up an hour late and write your assignments the day of. Put some care into your work and you will be respected.

Ryan Knighton is as good at teaching English as the best English professor you could imagine. All lectures, you just sit there and then its done and then you realize he just delivered a really educational talk. Every time! One negative; whenever I asked something about assignments or deadlines he'd tell me go to check the syllabus. Ummm thanks?!

LOVED THIS CLASS!! I'm not into Eng but the assign's were fun, and he is, by far, the sickest teacher on campus. He didn't give us a bunch of useless little papers worth 5%, he gives a few essays worth big marks but outlines EVERYTHING needed to get an A. He's super interesting and funny, and makes a point of learning names. I'd def take him again!

The man can tell a damn good story. You'll spend most of your time listening to those. When it comes to your writing, he tells it like it is. I don't agree with all of his opinions, but he's always honest. If you want to hear about how great your writing is, go elsewhere. If you want to improve, stick around.

I'm a little conflicted in my opinions of Ryan. He is a nice guy, very interesting, and has a lot of good advice. He was very helpful in the actual workshopping of pieces in class. However, he was a little harsh on the portfolio marking and name drops a lot, which bugged me. I would take his class again, I guess.

For ENG100, Ryan is really good, though he expects you to know the basics of grammar and sentence structure. He expects you to know a lot but her makes it really easy to learn and he is SUPER funny. Not an easy marker, but at least he will tell you what is wrong with said piece, unlike some teachers.

He is an amazing person, and nice person, but he royally screwed me over. It's impossible to know what to expect in his marking...as an example, I have never worked as hard on a paper as I did on my second one for his class, I rewrote it 3 times actually and went to the writing centre and I got ****ing 60%. UNFAIR.

Really helpful creative writing teacher. He is a writer (read Cockeyed) and has been editor in many literary Canadian magazines. He won't be an easy marker, but he'll give you the stuff you need to get in the business. He'll listen to your 3 page story and after you're done point out a faulty sentence. Very dedicated to teaching, highly recommend!

Ryan is hilarious...he tells you stories every class about his life or about random people....i enjoyed his class a lot, i didn't mind getting up at 830 to go! heads up: he is blind, so you have to be super vocal in his class cuz he can't see any raised hands...i would take english again just to have him teach me.

Really good teacher. Great stories which are almost always on topic. Very precise and easygoing. He marks for what something is truly worth. Write clearly and have a focus and you'll do well. Write an interesting worthwhile read and you won't be disappointed with the mark. I wish i could have taken more courses with him. Worth coming to class for.
