Comment:
Super straightforward. Soft-spoken and has an accent, but genuinely wants to make sure everyone understands and is willing to re-explain as much as necessary. Writes everything on the board, so if you go to class you'll have great notes. Teaches straight from the book, so you can always refer to the book for help.

Not a terrible teacher, but not one that I'd recommend. Often difficult to understand. The concepts seemed harder than they actually were most of the time.

He is very difficult to understand and he can't teach very well. He's very smart but all he does is use the black board with nothing else. Quizzes are all multiple choice and I haven't passed any of them except for one. You really need to read your text! Unless you really get economics I wouldn't recommend this prof.

Maybe not for Econ 100, but for upper level econ classes El-Shiek is one of the better Econ profs at St Fx. If you actually enjoy economics and take the subject not because you are forced to, you will understand what I mean. Tests are mainly from his notes, so take good notes and make sure you understand them.

If you have ANY opinion on anything DO NOT TELL HIM. All he wants is his notes on tests. With NO changes, one change = -15% right away. Hes a horrible teacher, can't understand, and should be avoided at all costs.

his words are covered heavily with a thick accent, and he speaks very softly so that it's hard to hear. His example graphs are not easily deciphered.

Uses a textbook from 1981 for most of his course. The textbook in unavailable, so you spend alot of your time in the library reading it on Reserve if you choose to read it at all. Tests are all course emphasis... I have never been more confused in a class in my life.

I am dismayed by the many negative comments about this prof. His lectures are tend to only be hard to follow if the student has not put the effort into reading the textbook - he enforces the concepts rather than explaining. Nice man, knows economics well.
