Very casual lecturing style. So casual that it's almost too hard to follow along with. Do the study guide, it's almost verbatim what will be on the test. Sometimes she grades papers/tests and sometimes TAs do. She is a little more picky than the TAs are. Don't interrupt, fall asleep or goof off, she will loudly call you out in front of everyone.

I think she has a wonderful personality. Very talkative and casual, though it's hard to follow because she changes topics and directions so often. Her tests and papers weren't too hard. Don't talk or text message in class, she will yell at you!

I recommend bringing a computer to class because she jumps around so much in her lectures. She is not very technologically savvy at all. All she does is lecture for the whole class, and expect you to retain all her useless ramblings. You have to do 3 papers, and there are 3 tests. Overall, though it is easy to get a good grade if you just apply you

Extremely nice lady, and very helpful if you go to her office hours. Is NOT an easy A, but and A is possible if you master her study guides. Her honors section, is by no means a blow off section but is very reasonable if you work hard.. makes a boring subject somewhat interesting, take her if possible!

She is a brilliant woman, really knows her stuff. She does have an odd way of lecturing and tends to jump around a lot but she made history an exciting class. If you read, go to class and put in a sufficient amount of effort you can definitely pull off an A.

She's a great teacher and knows her stuff! She gives you a study guide before each test which is really helpful. Everything on the test comes right from the study guide. If you go to her during her office hours she's really helpful. I really liked her as a professor.

She is a scatter brain. Very smart woman but hard to keep up with when taking notes because she skips around so much. Once you figure her out the class is really easy. Tests are easy and papers are easy As.

Dr. Sohmer is a really great teacher and if you take her class you are taking it from someone who really knows her stuff and cares about her students. This is by no means a slacker class, but like anything you get what you put in.

Great class and well taught. Tests arn't bad if if you know the study guide really well. She grades the essays pretty hard. Easy B, work hard and you can make an A. If you are in honors and are on the Civ track, defonitly take this.

Great prof. Knows more about European history than anyone I've ever met, and makes class interesting with her hilarious quotes. Tough test grader, but do the study guide completely and you will be fine. Definitely take her if you get the chance.

I thought it was a tough class! The papers weren't bad, but the tests were hard in my opinion. Even if I studied for 8 hours using the study guide she provided. If you aren't a strong test taker do not take this class!

She has a tendancy to blabber in her lectures and often concentrates on unimportant material. Her overheads are usually unreadable. Gives a study guide which makes tests much more managable. Don't bother reading the book till you have the study guide.

Despite her looniness, I would recommend the class. It's not always the most interesting material, but she GIVES you a study guide before the exam with key terms and essay questions. Know it and get A's. I knew the study guide and got a 96 in the class.
