He provides great lectures and is very passionate about history; and flags. If you need help, he will gladly lend a hand. There is a LOT of reading, I put in 2-3 hours everyday. The tests are NOT easy. They consist of essay questions that require you to understand the material, not just memorize it, to get an A.

Really knows his subject and is passionate about teaching. His midterms are not that tough per se. Most people just don't know how to study the material. There is a online study guide for every chapter attached to the company that made the book. I did not read the book at all but got an A. Ask him about flags and you will become good friends.

His exams are extremely difficult. You have to constantly read the chapters assigned. For the exams, he only chooses a few eventspeople and you have to describe thoroughly. Get ready for a lot of reading and memorizing! You have to love history to get an A in his class! I would recommend not taking this class and taking HIST 15AB and GEs seperate

Took this class over the winter. Professor is great, really helpful and makes classes interesting. Lot of reading and writing in a short period of time... probably should've taken this over a normal-length semester.

This was such an awesome class, and Prof. Guenter is a great professor. He's genuinely into the subject and makes the material really interesting. I didn't read at all for this class until a couple of days before the final. The papers are really fun to write since he gives you a lot of freedom choosing topics.

Great teacher! Had him for HUM100w and AMS-169, his lessons are really interesting and enjoyable. Learned a lot from him, but if you're looking for a class that you can just coast by in and get a good grade, take someone else. His classes are a lot of work and he expects a lot from his students.

I loved Professor Guenter!!! I had him for American Pop culture and the American Dream, very different classes, but he was engaging for both. Great professor demands excellence but when given he returns nothing but the best. Do the reading it makes class more interesting than it already is.

I actually got an A in the class, no,it was NOT hard. Dr. Guenter is approachable, caring person, with encyclopedic knowledge. Take good notes, do the reading, remember the few dates/peoples/places -you'll get an A. One of the most thought-provoking GE courses. Made me reevaluate my American Dream instead of simply wanting money/leisure/success...

Very difficult teacher. All the tests are essay format and take up to 3 hours to complete. You can work extremely hard in his class to only get a C. He is a very difficult grader also. I don't know anybody who had better then a B when the class was over. I would recommend avoiding his classes if you can, save yourself from a semester of misery!!!

This is one of the best teachers I have had in quite a while. Anyone who complains that he is too hard is probably not bothering to show up to class or read the textbook. He is a very interesting professor and cares a lot about the students. Very patient and passionate individual. I highly recommend this professor to others.
