Comment:
A terrible professor who likes to impress students with his grasp of terminology. He doesn't return emails and often provides very little comments on written work. Essay assignments are very confusing. Avoid this course, especially if you aren't an English major.

Incredibly boring and monotone with the lectures. TAs mark essays with no predictability, they say you did well then continues on to mark as if the whole thing was wrong. Unbelievable. My friendly advice: do not take ENGL1200 for an elective.

first of all, "how does it mean" is not a comprehensible sentence. Scott's a cool guy but his grading criteria is all over the place and the TA's were unresponsive to emails. In my opinion, the marking was too critical for a first year english course and as a science student, I would not recommend this course as an elective. what is a salad finger?

Nice Professor, but overall a frustrating course. The assignments did not seem that difficult, but the marking done by the TA's was unreasonable. From my knowledge, most of the class was doing poorly on these. Emailing the TA's did not help, as they would always said I was on the right track then would mark as if I did the whole thing wrong.

I had to drop this class halfway through because I was getting 50's when I normally got 80's in English. Really nice guy, but he is TOO passionate about his interests because he gets off track from the course. He uses too many references to things I had never seen, therefore I would never understand. Should really be teaching a media course

A caring guy who is more than willing to help you if you have questions. When he's on topic it can be helpful, but he tends to go on long, boring tangents that don't help whatsoever. He's also very unorganized, he often kept us 20-40 minutes after class because he had fallen behind in his lecture. Nice guy, not a super great prof.

The lectures he taught can be long, but was still informative and helpful. However most classes were presentations by students and assignments were unclear. Often had to email/ask questions about expectations. He was very happy to help and answer said questions, and offer opinions/guidance on assignments. Must read texts to pass course.

The setup of this course is not my favourite, mostly because its a lot of presentations from the students and very little teaching. That being said, Dr. Duchesne is incredibly helpful and will give you lots of feedback if you have him look over your assignments prior to submitting them. Would definitely take a class with him again.

Really great prof and a really great course! He always made the lectures interesting and made it very clear what to expect for the midterm and final as well as what was being asked for the assignments. I approached him about an essay and he was very helpful and friendly. Overall a good course to take as an elective as a science student.

He was just horrible.. Assignments never marked on time and has been the worst prof I've ever had. DON'T TAKE HIM IF IT'S AN ONLINE CLASS. I learned nothing..

I took this course online, we were expected to post 3-4 assignments per week. Do not expect your assignments marked in time for the following week, do expect your comments littered with spelling errors once you finally receive them, usually 3 weeks later (a TA marked my papers, she was very frustrating!).

I took this course online, so it's hard for me to judge how he was as a teacher. That being said, he didn't do a good job teaching this course. I was left alone, and feel like I was taught nothing. The class was structured in a very simple manner, and was not difficult at all. I highly recommend it.

Great guy and obviously really into the Hunger Games (i.e he believes that they're going to happen) But this class bored me. He speaks very monotone and his slides don't make sense. He's a great guy though and makes a 3 hour lecture sometimes humorous to be in.

Lectures were very clear but powerpoints could have been more concise. Texts were very interesting and engaging, but lectures were monotone and marking was extremely difficult and unpredictable.

This prof deserves respect, he is not interested in wasting his, or your, time forcing the material to folks not interested. He uses pop culture to bring the material into relevance and make it meaningful to you. The text is not mandatory, not if you are content to just get by, but it will certainly bring you to the front.

Always an interesting class, wants class involvement, and sometime goes off on funny tangents. Make sure you read the texts and go to class, as these are central to passing.

I had him for acting, and he was really awesome. He told you the way he thought the scene should be played, but also really wanted you to give your own interpretation. Friendly, approachable, and cool. A very fair grader

This prof is interesting but the work he assigns is somewhat confusing. The grading was unpredictable (but you can blame the TA). Don't expect due dates and return papers to be solid and prompt.
