Comment:
Had him for HNRS3301. The class was 2 response papers to short stories, a 10 page paper, and a final 10 page paper. I only got feedback on the 2 response papers but he apparently emailed some people back after the first 10 page paper. I ended up with an A still so not too hard, but it is extremely boring. You only need the book: Nortons anthology

After leaving the class I felt enriched by all the expertise Scott had to offer. Most of the homework consisted upon pretty basic response essays based on the books we read. The only downside to the class is we didn't receive any graded work back.

Scott was my thesis mentor for the LHC. He is the most influential figure in my college career and provided me the inspiration, precise feedback, and overall encouragement I needed. He is extremely knowledgeable and I take his advice seriously. Scott is wonderful for students who are serious about their work but still let their freak flag fly.

Hilarious teacher who showed us a few videos of Joseph Cambell in class. Vulgarity mentioned in comment beforehand is negligible due to the rare occurence of it and situations in which it was used. Taking class with him again next year and looking forward to it greatly.

Mr. Friesner is great! I had an awesome year in ATYP, my final year. He looks very deep into contemporary and ancient texts, bringing me insights that I hadn't considered before. Definitely recommended!

Mr. Friesner knows so much more about the Literature we cover than anyone else I know of. He's really done his research--teaching isn't just his job--he is constantly digging into new materials to try to know as much as possible. My only complaint is that he doesn't hand back much work. EXCELENT TEACHER OMG

I read spark notes instead of the books and did extremely well in the class. The class is easy, but the lectures are deadly. He talks for 2 straight hours every class, and the vulgarity can get irritating. Nice guy, super smart. Overall an ok class.

Phenomenal teacher...knows what he's talking about, though definitely more focused on the learning experience than the work. He puts the works he teaches into proper context, and explores them historically and compares them to others...really makes connections and helps you see them too, and look for your own. Again...phenomenal.

His lectures are long but actually pretty interesting if you stay awake. You'll get a good grade if you do the reading and pay attention.

This man is great, I love to listen to him talk, but he can sometimes get off topic and just lecture on his own for a while. This was a great class, very interesting discussions, and he has a unique angle and style. Don't expect to ever get a paper back, but the grading is pretty easy anyway.

Sweet class, and Scott is the coolest prof. I've had at this school. He's a total hippie but you can tell that he really loves what he's doing. I really got a kick out of his class and hope to be able to take another one with him soon.

The class would start off interesting because we'd have discussion, but then he would go into one of these philosophy things and draw things on the board for an hour. You lose interest after 30 miutes. He would repeat things too much too. Real nice, but should tone down on the philosophy and have better book choices.

He knows his stuff, but it's hard to follow him. He takes forever to give back papers and can get lost in lectures. Encourage group work, it helps a lot.

Good guy, bad Professor. His exams were always completely unrelated to the book making it nearly pointless to read. Lectures are torture, beyond boring. Scott is a nice man, and very intelligent, but needs to rethink his teaching style.
