Comment:
Avoid this professor, unless you're a CE or CS major, then taking him is inevitable. He tends to stay on topic for about 15 min but usually his hour and 40 min lectures are more than just an audience for his political views. Tests weigh 80% but there's only 2 test in the entire class which are hard. He needs to go.

Dr. Beidler is a nice guy, but a bad teacher. He gets off topic faster than me trying to study during finals week. Barely gave us assignments and the few he did were often unreasonable messes. 1 test and 1 quiz, but the class averages on both were under 50. He doesn't curve either. Questions were often ignored or given a "google it" response.

I had been warned to avoid Beidler, but my experience turned out alright. The class was really laid back and unstructured but I learned some helpful tidbits here and there. No quizzes, tests, or textbook, just lectures, small projects, and a final project. Crude at times but funny nonetheless. Just follow directions and you'll be fine.

He is like 90 years old, talks about his grandchildren and Pearl (a programming language used during the stone age). He openly curses and talks about his dislike of the philosophy department. Grades are mess, never grades anything. Tests are reused. Has his degree from 1962, if that doesn't tell you anything, he should have retired years ago.

Worst professor. I build my own computers and have enough knowledge of computers to get at least a B+ without doing anything. I did a ton of work, didnt understand the instructions for one homework and just kind of madr up answers so he thought i cheated...told me hed give me partial credit when the last drop date occured...he said ok but then at end of semester said sorry changed my mind and failed me...worst professor at any college hands down

Pretty difficult tests, mostly rely upon your ability to interpret and relay back to him what you've learned about the subject material, as someone who isn't great with actual coding I struggled to understand some of the material, work in groups, it will save your grade, huge curves on overall grades as well (~10 points)

If you're a good student, have a solid basis of CMPS and motivation you'll do well, if you're lazydon't even bother wasting your money at the U. You'll do well on the assignments, work in groups, it's extremely helpful, the tests are very difficult, and rely on your ability to actually demonstrate your knowledge.

Beidler is the man. He made the class worth coming to; he'll say what's on his mind even if that means calling you a dumbass in front of the class. Assignments were all pretty simple, but the tests were tough.

he is like ... 67 years old, what do you want?? He has his pros and cons, you will do very well on the little assignments, but beware of tests: much of your test taking will rely on your ability to be creative with how you answer, and many questions will not be based on things said directly in class.

Rude, opinionated. The class is a true lecture for the 50 minutes or however long you have it in a day. He is very vague with projects but wants specific elements. Insults you (calls you stupid) and then laughs. Everyday assignment are easy but must be done on time. He gets off topic a lot. If you try to correct him, you are never right.

RIDICULOUSLY open and blatant with his comments. Tends to talk about his "toys"/"gadgets", grandchildren, and wife a lot. No tests, just a bunch of vague assignments. I have not learned a single thing after being in his class. I recommend bringing an air freshener or two to class if you sit in the front row.

The man hasn't taught calculus since 1970 something, and it shows. Some days he spent half the class showing us a computer program he wrote to solve the problems. He also said that he has no idea why students like to use calculators when we could buy a computer, download java, write a computer program, and use it to do the same thing. Do not take.

Very easy. Not a good teacher. Talks about his political views in class. I don't care what a teacher's views are, don't tell them to me, teach me instead what I need to know. No tests. Simple projects.

Is wishywashy at teaching math. Some days he was easy to understand other days I had no clue what he was talking about.I at least had a good math background, so I did good in the class. I felt bad for all the ppl that had never taken calc before.

Completely pointless class. Gets off topic all of the time, is unreasonable at times, and will put you to sleep. Is a tenured professor which gives him free reign--avoid taking him if possible.
