Took this class because I thought having an online course would reduce my coursework and stress yet this is the complete opposite. Videos are super dry and convoluted and require readings are long and difficult. Overall annoying course.

Don't take this class just because it's online. It may kill your GPA, so not worth it. People say this class is easy, but it turned out the worst course I had taken at university.

His class makes it seem like you're watching a comedian because he loves the material he teaches so much. Very loose deadlines, nothing was "due" until the last day of classes, which could be helpful for some people but not so good for others. Very helpful with helping you understand assignments and material. Overall amazing prof who is woke af.

This is an online course where the midterm is worth 50% and the final is worth 50%. Each exam has 60 MC questions. This will be a fairly easy course for you if you play video games. Some of the exam questions were unreasonable - ex) name of author of a specific article

STS 350 is the in-class version of STS 351, and I'd say it's definitely better to take it the way I did. Basically the structure was group project (making a text adventure game), group presentations (based on lecture videos/readings) and game design exercises. It was a lot of fun and worth taking. Very relaxed environment.

The best way to study is to download the video subtitles on coursera and copy them from notepad into Word for notes. Go through these notes thoroughly because every offhand remark is testable. Qs for readings are fairly straightforward, know authors for the final. Use the forum for class q's not his email. I did fine despite never gaming. Fun!

He's a really nice guy, really helpful if you ask him questions. I cannot blame him for how dry the course was and the tests were pretty difficult. Knowing all the games is hard when you have never played a video game in your life.. Readings are tested a lot so don't skip them thinking they wont be tested.

I think Sean may have forgot his email password? I've heard from more than 1 person he doesn't respond. Video lectures are brutal to watch. My biggest mistake in life is taking this class with this professor. please don't make the same mistake.

Sean doesnt respond to emails, and it's hard to get help for this online course since you cannot just go to his class. He is NO help. This is not an easy class. This is the worst class i've ever taken in my life. It is so boring and the lectures are so long. The readings are brutal unless you like history on games.. please dont take this class

Videogame course. 5050 midtermfinal split, all MC exams, final cumulative. Meh. Material can be philosophical for the first half of the course but makes more sense in second half. Readings are longtedious, and it sucks not having any notes (have to take your own). Final had many questions about "who said this.." and "what was first game to.."

I really enjoyed this prof! He tried to make the class interesting by getting us to read four fiction novels and a weekly article. Exams were basic, participation/attendance was extremely helpful and if you enjoy Canadian history I would take it with Gouglas, one of those old-school profs who still wears a suit to work everyday

I love this prof. He's intelligent but very down to earth. I don't understand how some students say he has an ego. He's a history prof!, expect a small one at least. His comments are very helpful and will meet with as many students possible to help them. Awesome prof. Nice. Lectures and powerpoints are well structured!

He's kind of a boring man. If you like essays and reading go for it. His marking isn't the issue, but his lectures go nowhere and despite knowing his stuff he's not good at getting the class to understand what he wants from them. Also he gives students the "why are you such an idiot" look if they make a mistake in a class discussion.

A LOT of reading in this course (4 books, in addition to the course text and essays for discussions). Marking seemed rather lenient, in my experience, and I generally enjoyed the course. However, the final exam's identification section left me perplexed... he had ignored all the major concepts we discussed for fringe terms. It was very difficult.

It's sad that Dr. Gouglas has more comments on his behaviour than his brains, when actually he can sometimes project highly intellectual qualities that he has as a very intelligent person.
