Comment:
I found this course to be particularly challenging for the 201 level, or perhaps that's because I'm not as good with essay exams, so if that's not your thing, then he's not the prof for you. He paces during his lectures which did distract me a bit, and his handwriting was a bit difficult to read. Not a terrible guy overall but not for me.

I would never in my life recommend this class to a student. The professor flies through material in class in a way that is hard to follow. The exams are 60% reliant on essays which reflect his lectures, so you can imagine just about how well those exams go.. Working with outside TA's is necessary in order to do well in this class.

Dr. Savage is an awesome professor& knows soo much about politics! He seems intimidating, but I loved his class and is soo willing to help anyone who needs it! There are a lot of tests, but they are exactly off of the study guides. Also, you never have to participate, but you do have to take good notes. Plus, he ends every class w/ SNL videos!

Dr. Savage is the best professor in the Political Science Department! He seems tough and he expects a lot but if you get to know him during office hours, he is actually really helpful and cares a lot about his students. He is also one of the smartest people I have ever met and if you pay attention in his lectures, you can learn a lot!

Very easy class. Even if your notes aren't perfect, you can still come up with plenty of material for quizzes and tests (only 3 each the whole semester). Very boring, though. It was the same thing everyday. I had considered majoring in pol. sci. but changed my mind after taking this class.

Comment:
He was incredibly drab and boring. Considering it was a class on democracy he doesn't let the class discuss at all. He didn't even allow questions at times. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of this class. I expected far more from a Saint Mary's course and Savage fails miserably on that level of quality.

Sean is different when he teaches his electives. In 152, he does what he has to do in that course. In his electives, he is more creative and funny.

His teaching style is drab and predictable. I would not recommend taking American Politics of Democracy with him unless you're looking for a class with a light workload.

This class is a nice intro, but you don't really do much current events discussion as you would hope. Savage is a Kennedy wannabe, but a good guy and not too hard of a grader. Only three tests and an optional paper all sememster from what i rememeber.
