Enrolled in "Evol of Martyrdom" with the intention of dropping at the beginning of the semester & ended up loving it! Dr. S is an extremely engaging lecturer. His tests intimidated me, but they're based on the lectures & readings (he wrote one of the texts so if you miss class that helps you catch up). Lots of group discussion (which I enjoy), too.

Dr. Shepkaru's Evol. of martyrdom is one of the best courses I have taken. Although the class is long, he is entertaining, smart, funny, and very interesting. Great class.

I must have taken him on an "off" semester. Here we go: He talked down to students; was almost always late; lectures seemed put together at the last minute; added surprise terms that we had not gone over in class to his exams; interrupted people in the middle of their presentations instead of waiting until the end. I would not recommend overall.

I took Dr. Shepkaru's Evolution of Martyrdom class that met once a week for three hours. The lectures are long and repetitive but he always keeps it fun by making jokes and telling in interesting stories. He also gives breaks. Class consisted of four exams which involved writing a paragraph for 6ish terms. No papers. Final was take home. Made an A.

Had him for Israeli Culture Through Film. A quiz each week over the movie we watched the last class period. 2 essay exams that were super easy. The quiz wording is poor, however. No outside work for the class. Mandatory that you show up. Easy A if you attend class. He is knowledgeable on the subject at least, even though a little confusing at times

I really loved him as a professor! He was a great teacher, but I had no interest in the subject. But, that is not his fault. Tests were SUPER easy as long as you studied somewhat and paid attention in class. Two multiple choice, one in class essay and a take home final essay. I feel I learned a lot, whether it will help me in life is uncertain.

I had Shepkaru for Israeli Film. He provides everything you need to know in class, and requires no outside reading. Expect to come to see all the movies, and don't miss a quiz. This is one of the easiest As I've made in a history class. Only an idiot can mess it up.

The movies are very interesting. Some of the concepts in film are not duplicated in American cinematography. Shmuel, it is important to keep in mind, is from a different culture and appreciates interest in his subject not simply coming and sitting in class. If you show you're interested he is very receptive to that and helpful.

I took his Evolution of Martyrdom Class. The tests were very easy, if you took notes in class and studied them for about 2hrs before test. His essay tests were very straightforward, and he tried to give you as many points as possible. I would've rather taken this class over intersession since it was a waste of time, but it was interesting.

His Jeswish Mysticism class was very intersting but difficult to understand. His lectures on Metatron and the 7 gates of heaven you encounter on a mystic ascention were pretty insane. If you alrealy know about sefir yetzira, un sef, and the 7 gates, then by all means take the class:)
