Comment:

Super sweet teacher!!! Silvia is very caring and very funny. This way the class is done though relies a lot on correcting yesterday's homework. I learned a lot more in a shorter amount of time being abroad. This class will not help you become much better at speaking unless your brain learns well from books rather than experiences and observing.

Loved Silvia. I was a first year who had permission to take 2nd year Spanish, but she made it no problem for me. She expanded everyone's vocabulary and conversation skills through in class speaking. Her tests were very well organized and covered all the material she discussed. Would recommend her.

Comment:

Prof Colas is an absolute pleasure. She is super casual in her teaching style which makes Spanish a lot more fun to learn. I also recently found out that she's taking German classes. It's nice to hear that she makes an effort to maintain and understand the perspectives of students learning a new language. She is super clear about her expectations.

I had Silvia for Span250B, 485 & 490C. As much as I loved Silvia as a person and a prof, I found her lectures long & off topic sometimes. She takes a long time to correct assignments and it's tough to get a high mark in her class, I couldn't get higher than 80% on her tests no matter how hard I studied (despite being a near-native Spanish speaker)

Silvia was an amazing prof and I am extremely disappointed that my schedule will not work to have her again for 250B. Her tests are extremely clear and she tells you exactly what to expect prior to writing it. Coming straight from grade 12 I was nervous to start in 250A but she made it such an easy transition. Overall, she cares about her students.

I love Silvia! She really cares about how her students do in the class and answers all questions very clearly with good examples. I only used the textbook for the 1-2 homework questions each class, I was able to get a great grade just by attending class and asking questions. Looking forward to 250B and any other classes with her.

Silvia is definitely my favourite prof. She's helpful and understanding if you ever need concepts re-explained. I found she could make some things more confusing than they needed to be but if you ask her later she re explains it and it makes a lot more sense. She is a really fun prof and I wish I could have her for all my spanish courses

Comment:

Silvia is awesome. I've had her for three different semesters (Spanish 250 A and B and Spanish 275), and loved her for every one! In 250 AB there are a lot of quizzes, but she tells you exactly what to study and they are all the same format., so pretty easy. Super nice, helpful, and fun lectures. Classes have lots of participation, so do your hw!

Great course, interesting lectures. Only 4 assignments in total, no exams but all assignments weigh a lot of your grade. Would have been grate to have clearer grading criteria but she is a fair marker, so that makes up for it.

Comment:

Silvia is passionate about teaching Spanish. While her lessons follow the concepts from the textbook, she explains them her own way which allows the student to see a concept from different angles. The assignments are spaced out well and are weighted fairly. There are no surprises on the quizzes, she makes sure you know what is expected of you.

Silvia brings a wealth of knowledge in languages, not just Spanish. SPAN249 is much, much more difficult than the first year spanish courses. But Silvia lets you know exactly how you will be marked, and gives you lots of guidance and assignments. Your español skills and confidence will improve drastically!

Silvia is an amazing prof! She is funny and understanding, very helpful! She is a very fair marker, and her tests are very doable as long as you have done your homework and studied (especially the irregulars!). I would DEFINITELY take a class with her again. She is funny, she is sweet, she is interesting, she is helpful. Ladies, and gentlemen I present to you the best teacher you will ever get. Her classes were extremely interesting. I love it and was always looking forward to it. She jumps right into the language and shows you its way. Her exams are super easy! Tells you what you will be quizzed on!

Love this prof she is super sweet and so funny and entertaining. She really knows what she's talking about and is super helpful. The only issue i had with this class is we never get to practice speaking spanish to one another so i found i got rusty, but you get a lot of practice listening as she always rambles in spanish, Fave class!

Very energetic and knowledgeable. Coming from Barcelona, she's a wealth of anecdote and insight into Spanish culture; she's delightful to have a class with, I wouldn't want to learn Spanish with anybody else!
