Pretty interesting class, definitely one of the best ffys classes out there. Dont even bother buying the books she tells you to get, we never really went over them and I never read a page. Lecture style is just her talking about whatever she feels like going over that day so I stopped taking notes after the first few weeks and I still got an A

One of the best FFYSs, from what I've heard from others. Lectures can be pretty boring but she tries to engage students. No quizzes or tests. Only one paper due at end of semester, turned in in small sections throughout which makes it easy. You'll actually learn some Sociology. Reading is completely not necessary. Accommodating, but old school.

I took social psych and the law with her. The lectures were pretty interesting. I didn't like that she just read off of a sheet and I wasn't sure what was important and what was not, in the end, all that mattered was whether or not you read. Attendance is mandatory but note taking is somewhat pointless . Most questions came from the book.

Took Criminal justice with her. Terrible class. Interesting information but she presents it in a very unorganized manner. Her tests seem easy but then she grades very hard. She is difficult and rude in office hours. I went to every class and took good notes and still only got a B.

Her classes prove to be incredibly interesting despite the lecture based format. The examples and information she provides are current and offer a lot of insight into what she teaches. Be ready to take notes and read for tests.

I don't know what the last rater is talking about--Dr. Burns doesn't teach Socl. 367. Anyway, her classes are great. I've taken her for 2 and learn so much. I'm sure I'll be able to use stuff on current cases. The level of materials is hard, but definitely worth it. I strongly recommend her!

I have idea what you people are talking about "life altering experiences". This woman borders crazy. She is socially awkward, reads her notes (literally) outloud from 1972, and clearly plays favorites. I am so happy she won't be the department chair anymore so I don't have to ask her for a letter for recommendation.

Material is fairly straight forward. Unfortunately, she absolutely favors certain (law) students offering them help even when they don't need it. The students she doesn't favor are left in the dust. I once asked for help with an internship and she tried to withhold information from me.

She clearly favored law and criminal justice students over the rest. She is well informed and taught us some really interesting information but she left little room for independent thought. On exams you have to put the exact example she used, if you make up your own example you will have points deducted.

I'm very grateful for all the prelaw/career advice Dr. Burns gives. Especially now when students are worried about their economic future, she offers encouragement and real help. Before the classes I took from her, I didn't know what to do for a career, but all the class discussions and personal advice helped me decide to pursue criminal justice.
