She knows her material. Discussion based classes and hardly ever uses powerpoint. She grades with checks, so knowing a letter grade is hard with her. Her classes are very engaging and make you think deeply about your own role in societal structures. She's 110% passive aggressive, so beware of that quality.

Dr. Capek is amazing. She is extremely dedicated and cares about all her students. Lots of good reading, and she connects it really well with class discussions. She is always willing to help and stays at Hendrix late into every night grading and working with students. Her classes will change your life and your perspectives. Highly recommended.

She's very sweet and kind. Super passionate about sociology and esp the environment. Never condescending to others' viewpoints and class comments. Sometimes the lectures are a bit boring and unorganized, and sometimes her directions are unclear. However, I recommend her.

Food, Culture, Nature has been a life changing class and it is easy to see Capek's passion! She has been an easy grader so far but be sure to participate and keep up with readings. If you are the type of person who needs organized powerpoints for notes, this class will be difficult for you. Lots of discussion is encouraged in this class!

I took her food, culture, and nature course - one of my favs ever! She is helpful, and really enjoys this topic. I learned A LOT! The class was demanding, but in a balance - you saw result of the amount of effort you put in. A very fun class!

I took her Food, Culture, & Nature course and thouroughly loved it. Capek seems perpetually wired and most of her tangents have tangents, but she has proved incredibly helpful and very ecologically- and community-conscious with respect to her role in the Hendrix community. Kind of a hippie who later bacame a respectable human being.

I was a student of Stella's when I was an undergrad. I am now in graduate school. She is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had; it was in large part because of her that I became a socioogy major. She is incredible.

Very friendly and perky. Environmentally friendly. Sometimes tough to handle in the early morning. Assigns lots of outside readings, so don't think you are getting off easy with no text book. Uses a typewriter to make syllabus, which is hilarious. Doesn't know how to use a VCR. :)
