It's quite clear Davies has been instructing for a while. His classes are very regimented, and he's mastered how to give lectures in such a manner that note taking is easy. His assignments and tests are more difficult then my other classes, but not impossible. Additionally he's a tough grader, but overall Davies is nice guy.

Davies is a nice guy with a good sense of humour and is extremely knowledgeable. His classes are very lecture heavy, and doing the readings are necessary to do well on the quizzes in this course. I actually found this 101 course more difficult than both of my other second year history courses. This class requires alot of time and effort!!!

Normally waking up for an 8:30 class on Monday morning would be a real drag, not unless you have a Davies lecture for that first class! Davies is always super informative and doesn't keep you in class the full length if he doesn't have to. Hes a no BS prof and it very knowledgeable of his course material. However note taking is a must.

Literally my favourite professor! I heard some less desirable things about him before the class but have been pleasantly surprised. If you are a student, like myself, who really cares about history then you will really enjoy Dr. Davies! He is so passionate and his lectures keep me very interested! I would 100% take his class again, even on purpose!

Stephen is hilarious. He doesn't put up with history Know-It-Alls. He has full control over what he teaches so when listening to lectures you know that he is passionate about what he is saying. BUT. The assignments are really vague and pointless, and for the exams it pays to take super detailed notes and have a study partner. LOTS of dates!

Stephen is a fantastic Professor! A living, breathing encyclopedia of Historical events. Highly professional and well organized. Great lecturer with good sense of humour. As a marker, he is tough but exceedingly fair! I thoroughly enjoyed this class and recommend it to all who have a passion for History.

Terribly dry. Hard marker. Gets dates wrong in lectures. Straight reads his notes - doesn't work for a visual learner (me). Gone from straight A's to nearly failing. Do not recommend.

Great professor once you get into how he structures the class. Reading and weekly tests are mandatory, but rarely requires the students to buy a textbook which is a big plus. His moustache is kind of cool.

Great Prof! Very knowledgeable and highly educated. Willing to answer all questions and thrives on group discussion. If your not willing to give 100% in his classes don't bother taking them at all. He only recognizes those who try. Lastly, ALWAYS do the reading - you'll regret it if you don't.

Loving this guy! Took the course as a quick summer credit and am so interested in WW1 now because his enthusiasm and knowledge make it exciting. Strikes me as a tough marker though. He certainly wants you to think for yourself.

Really interesting man and great lecturer - he rarely uses notes. I like his gentle way of handling 'know it all' students who rarely come to class. You have to go and take excellent notes to pass. He is firm and fair. A strict marker - he gives no favours.

His lectures are very good, I'd say not a bad course to start off in first year to get a taste, but the way it's structured isn't really for me in the long run, can be hard and unclear in terms of the papers, but everything else, fairly fair.

Stephen is tough. No doubt about it. But he is an excellent teacher and if you do the work you will learn. He DOES NOT respond to emails, though, and DON'T miss the first class or you'll run into some problems.
