Comment:
In a class geared to politics and power structures, the only authors we read were white men. Dictates the entire class "discussion" based on his opinion on any given subject. Doesn't really rely heavily on the text that you have to read, but you need to have a basic understanding of all HW readings. Pretty tough.

Comment:
He's clearly interested in his subject, but he does have a tendency to drone on about certain topics and skip discussion all together (lectures are sometimes too long). No one I talked to ever seemed to get above a B+. He is more concerned with style than content in essays. He is unorganized and didn't get one paper back before the next was due.

Comment:
Do not take this class if you want an A- or above. Most of his grades are B+'s and no matter how much of his advice you follow, he will be VERY picky about giving you higher than a B+. There will always be something wrong. His readings are extremely boring and he is very unorganized.

Comment:
The most painful class I have taken at Mount Holyoke so far. His assignments are completely unrelated to the class material. He introduces new ideas and concepts in his essay questions and expects you to rely on google for answers. Very unorganized - the first half of the class wasted on irrelevant discussions and the second half rushed and unclear

Comment:
He speaks very quietly so it's easy to zone out while he's speaking. If you do pay attention though, he has a lot of interesting things to say. Always ask for clarification BEFORE if you're unsure what he wants from an assignment because he may mark you down without explaining what you did wrong. He might not mention it but participation matters.

I've taken every class Prof. Jones has taught. He is, by far, one of the most intelligent and helpful professors I've ever had. He will write raving reviews and spend as much time with you as you need. People who find him unclear/unhelpful usually don't put any effort forth in class. He's also an amazing professor for recommendations.

I've had Prof. Jones for a number of classes. Yes he assigns a lot of readings, but you figure out pretty quickly to skim (or not read all of them). I think he just reads things and then adds them to the growing pile. Intelligent, very engaging and funny. Leaves excellent and insightful (and very long) comments on papers. Very willing to help.

I took a freshman seminar with this professor and he gave a ridiculous amount of reading for each class. He was very unclear in class and rambled on for the whole hour and 15 min (+10 or 20). I will not take another class with him.

I've taken a few classes with Stephen. He's not too hard and the work is not very time consuming. I would recommend doing the readings because he'll know if you didn't do them. GO TO CLASS!! Participation plays a role in your grade. He's a nice guy and an ok professor.

He is an extraordinary Professor and Scholar. Having class with a man so obviously excited about the subject matter is a joy. Although somewhat disorganized at times, he makes up for it a thousand times over with his insigtful comments, poited questions and overall passion for the subject. Take a class with Stephen Jones!

Very easy but very boring. Skips over important topics and spends too much time on unimportant ones. Why did we watch a video about fishermen? Must find outside sources for papers because readings do not really relate.
