Comment:

West is retired but returns when asked. I took his Precalc class (the first time he ever taught it). He is really good at simplifying concepts, even if they are rather complex. I am awful at math and ended the semester doing calculus equations like they were addition. If you have a disability that leads to absences (& a DD letter), he docks points.

Comment:

I HATE math and he made going to class a pleasure. He's funny and more than willing to help. If you have to take a math class, take it with West. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He's also incredibly knowledgeable and knows everything about what he is teaching. Uses free online text book and very clear HW questions will be on tests.

I was taking it as part of Bio major. I needed extra help after class and when he would explain it to me outside of class, I understood it. But in class, I had a hard time following. He asked me why I was even bothering to take it, I dropped it. I regret that now, should have stuck through and just sought a tutor instead of listening to him.

He teaches random things that will not be on the tests or quizzes. He teaches everything by textbook definition using terms that nobody understands. Definitely would NOT recommend having him as a teacher but he is definitely a good person. Gives a lot of partial credit

Dr. West is a quality prof. He goes a little fast and if you miss a homework youll fall right behind. Makes quizzes strait from homework once a week so those are easy 100s if you do your work which in turn sets you up for success on the exam as well. As long as you do your work class will be fine. Definitely a great guy office hours are great.

An outstanding professor. A genuinely nice guy, offered a few extra credit points on tests as a reward for attending class. Very helpful in class and even better one-on-one in office hours. Do the HW, even thought it is not required. I would highly recommend him for calc II, and if I had the option, I would take any other math course with him.

I took two math classes with West - you know, the ones that teach teachers how to teach math? I hate math. But West made me understand it - AND he made it interesting. Believe me, that's hard to do! (Plus, you've gotta love the sandals and socks.)
