Comment:
Has on abvious knowledge of sociology but not particularly skilled at trasnmitting this to students without an extensive background in globalization. Sometimes neglects the fact that it's only a second year course. Fair marker but expectations are unclear. Inconsiderately assigned a 10-15 page essay and a take home exam within a week of eachother.

Comment:
Obviously passionate and knowledgeable about globalization, but fairly ineffective at passing on knowledge to students. Difficult to understand concepts and complex terms without a background in globalization; uses too much jargon. Dense readings. Fair marker though, and the films in class were great.

His lectures were very dry, not always sure what he was asking for, knew some of the material (films, guest lecture) was the exact same as devs 200 which most students in the class were taking. He made me fall asleep almost everytime we had class.

Lectures were informative, but very dry. Exams based only on readings, which were barely discussed in class. Schedualed final essay (worth 45%) and exam (25%)a week apart. Unapproachable and unhelpful when asked questions. Treats students as if they are stupid.

The material is a little tricky, you definitely have to do the readings and put in the effort, but professor Boyd is so knowledgeable and is super approachable outside of the classroom; he welcomes you to his office hours and really takes an interest in your questions. Very informative class for people who like a challenge!

A brilliant guy who makes these diffucult ideas very clear. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, like many soc students, not doing their readings and just taking up space. Too hard for 2nd year?! Get a life (of the mind)!

too advanced, too boring, nothing new here-just a survey of academic writings, arguing against one another

Readings well past a second year course. Knows his stuff in and out, but does not use any skills to impart that knowledge to students. Definitely a social scientist but not really a teacher. Does not seem to realize that most are lost.

Lectures were way over my head, but my assignments were marked fairly. Very intense guy who's passionate about what he teaches and a body to die for (he's a triathlete or something).

Very boring lectures, makes students feel stupid in class if you don't understand the material (which most ppl don't). Readings are at more of a 4th year or graduate level

Such a boring lecturer that I didn't go to class for half the semester. Everything is based on the readings, he told us the lectures weren't necessary!
