Steve is amazing. His classes are great elective choices (I'm in Haskayne and have taken 3 classes with him - 201, 325, and 327) and he always presents the material in a clear, thorough manner. Cracks jokes and makes the environment light. Gives hints in lectures, but you need to read the textbooks to succeed. 10/10 recommend.

Many questions on the exam are directly from the text, so defs read it. Lecture attendance is not mandatory but HIGHLY recommended b/c he gives away hints at what will be on the exam and his notes are too brief majority of the time. Besides, lecture is the funnest/most beneficial part of taking soci 201 with Dumas, its a good time for sure.

Very enthusiastic and thoughtful professor. I think his lectures are always interesting because he relates the topic to current events and anecdotes. A good storyteller. His lectures are usually very memorable. A bit of a harsh marker. Kind of looks like the guy that plays wolverine in the x-men.

Great teacher, he's a natural. Always willing to help and has lots of office hours if you need help. However he doesn't seem to pay much attention to the text book so don't buy it, waste of money.

Steve is a great prof! He's very passsionate about sociological concepts. His lectures are very interesting and insightful. He posts PPT and if you attend class and take breif notes on top of the ppt slides, you can do very well in his course.

Best prof I have ever had. Fair marker, makes all his expectations crystal clear at the start of the course. however, the course it self was basically intro soc repeating it self. It's a waste of time, and the text book is retarded. Be prepared to bang your head into a wall for most of the course. The project is also worth 45% - and is departamenta

Great guy, good teacher and loves what he does. Way too much work for a 1000 level course, but if you manage to have fun with your research topic it's not all bad. I enjoyed the class, however a lot of the material seemed redundant after taking 1101.

This prof really knows what he is talking about. He has very extensive office hours, is always willing to help you out, and is very approachable. he posts all of his slides up on blackboard so there is no need to worry if you miss a class. My only problem with Steve is that it takes him forever to mark stuff. I would take another class from him.

He is well educated, however expects work at a much higher level that a 1000 level course, therefore making it difficult and stressful. I took this class because I had to, otherwise I would have dropped it first week. The proff is nice, just too much for a 1000 level.

Great class! the material was extremely clear and essay questions for the midterm was given before hand. Trys to make learning the material fun and uses current events as examples. Very refreshing to get a prof who isn't boring and makes students actually wanna attend his classes. Posts all notes on Blackboard. would take another course from him!

Congratulations to professors who can educate and engage students at the same time! I highly recommend this professor who is down-to-earth, approachable and informative. Assignments could be marked a little faster, although I believe he teaches at U of Calgary too. Tests are tough so don't slack off! Great class and a natural at teaching.

Great Class! Kept things interesting. Text is cheap and easy to read. Exams are not hard. Essay question only, 2 quiz's over the term 20 marks each. Know what you are talking about on the essay and you will do fine :)

Steve is a really nice guy and really funny too. His lectures can be a bit boring but the material was pretty dry so he's not completely to blame. He has a lot of enthusiasm for the subject and really knows his stuff. His exams are insanely hard though!

Super nice guy, keeps class very interesting. Allows for lots of student input, and uses recent events as examples. His exams are extreamly hard though, and do not seem to be relavent to what is discussed in class. My lowest grade to date.

This guy is a pretty cool teacher. He's a bit of a hard marker but it's probably because the exams are essays and it's impossible to remember every detail of each theory. But he did give us the exam topics in advance and hints on which theories we were expected to compare and contrast for each topic.
