You have to study for the tests or you'll do poorly, but Steve is always available outside of class to help. If you're ever confused during his lectures, you can ask and he will help you understand.

Dr. Steve is a very nice and approachable professor. He is always available to help outside of class. I had a hard time following his lectures during class, though. He taught things in a difficult way to understand and it was almost impossible to take good notes (if any). You need to learn on your own for this course with the textbook.

Dr. Steve is considered by many to be too smart to be a good teacher (he sometimes assumes prior knowledge and even more frequently hints at topics that we do not need for the course which can be confusing) but his office hours are very open and he is great one on one.

Just bad... took ap chem in high school, did very well, now I am actually struggling. If you have him read the book and pray that you know what you're doing because regardless of what he goes over in class you will have quizzes every week on a new chapter....

If you have him, run away and hide. Or switch out as soon as possible. You have no chance to do well, even if you feel you have mastered the material. You will leave class confused and have to rely on willing TA's and tutors and youtube to teach you chemistry. By far the worst teacher I've ever had and ruined by first semester of college. Smart guy

Im a chem major and analytical was essential to my major. I had doctor Steve for gen chem also and he is literally the worst teacher I've ever had. His lectures are all over the place and you learn nothing from him. The class is a "teach yourself and hope to pass" class. Notes won't help, just do hw problems and review quizzes for the tests.

The material itself was fair in difficulty, but it was the lecture style that made it difficult. Steve goes over concepts in very vague ways, although the few examples can be found on quizzes. Learned everything via book, which isn't bad except the book has a crappy soln manual. Tests are hwquizrecitation problems and some concepts.

Dr. Steve is a GREAT teacher. I look through some old ratings and I can encourage you to overlook those, as he has obviously changed. He is always available to help you with anything and is an extremely easy man to talk to. You get to do quizes in groups and you literally have a cheat sheet for each quiz. Read the book as well.

nice guy, very unclear. he will tell you to read the textbook, then tells you it's wrong. notes aren't easy because he flies through the slides like a bat out of hell. i'd say don't bother taking notes and just do the reading but all reading is contradicted. no matter what you're between a rock and a hard place.

Steve is a HORRIBLE teacher. If you find you have him, switch out as soon as possible. His quizzes are okay (he lets you work in teams) but the exams are absolutely excruciating. I asked him how I could raise my grade and he told me to drop. So I did. He made me HATE chemistry.

There is no question the man is an absolute genius when it comes to chemistry. He knows everything. But, that being said, he is a horrible teacher. Moves way too fast, doesn't explain what he does on the board or why he does it. Expects you know everything there is to know. Really just a bad teacher, would not reccomend staying in the class.

An absolute genius in this field, and an overall great person; however his teaching ability lacks. His lectures have nothing to do with any of the assignments/quizzes, and he flies through them as if everything is obvious. It's as if he lectures just to show off how smart he is.

Is the smartest person I've ever met. He is like Mr. Fantastic from the comics but instead of stretching he can make Analytical chemistry fun. I also once saw him fly. Meeting Steve was like meeting Peter Debye.

Steve knows his stuff but goes very fast in lectures. He's too smart for his own good and made me feel stupid when I went to ask for help. He's a nice guy but he assumes you know a lot before he even teaches it to you.

His lectures are pointless most of the time. They're barely on the topic you're actually doing, and you don't need them for anything. The point of his quizzes are to make you feel stupid. The point of exams are to lower your grade. I doubt he knows whats on the exams. Funny but don't take him.

Steve is one of the best teachers ive ever had. Extremely helpful and always available for any questions. Hes a funny guy and tried to make chemistry fun. Hes very smart and extremely easy on the eyes. He expects a lot from his students so make sure you read the book, fill out the learning guide, and participate in class. I love Steve!

I agree with majority of the reviews- AVOID STEVE. He's too smart in the worst way. He's arrogant, does a poor job at explaining things, and grade is completely thanks to the TA's. And when you ask a question, he acts like the answer is so obvious, and makes you feel stupid. The kids who like him are the "cool" geniuses sitting in the front row.

I would agree with most of the reviews for Dr. Steve. He is a nice guy, but he can't explain chemistry at a freshman level. If you go to his office to ask questions, you need to keep asking him to clarify things until you understand it. Most of what you learn in this class is from reading the book.

First, I thought the response on 11/30/06 summarized my attitudes completely. Dr. Steve moves through the notes way too quickly...multiple times I left class without complete notes. He knows his chemistry, but does not come across well with his students-too arrogant. Though available for extra help, I always felt awkward with him. Try another prof
