Dr. Hughes was great. He's a really good guy that only looks to help. Lectures can be boring at times but overall it is a solid class. He gives multiple quizzes on readings, a midterm, and a final, as well as 2 papers. Powerpoint notes are spotty but if you listen to him you'll do fine.

As a educator, he's okay. His lectures are long and confusing. Gives full-book reading assignments every two weeks and you WILL be quizzed of have a paper. Office hours are spotty at best (he's head of the department). DOES NOT USE MOODLE AT ALL. I spent the entire semester wondering what my grade was.

Hughes is the best! He's such a nice person and always tried to make his lectures fun! It is a lecture based class so prepare to do a lot of writing! DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! You only use it for a small assignment at the beginning of the year and then you never use it again. I would suggest renting it with a friend or a group of people.

Dr Hughes is the man. He is super fun and the best history teacher I've ever had. He makes history interesting and it isn't hard to focus. Take good notes you will need them for the midterm and final. He assigns a lot of books to read but sparknotes and shmoop will get you a B - B+ on quizzes. His yodeling in class is also definitely up to par.

Dr. Hughes is the MAN! Seriously. Even if you don't like History, he makes it so interesting. Not only is he invested in his subject, but his lectures are awesome. Make sure you go to class and take notes! Also, go to papers for help -- he's extremely approachable in this regard. Not an easy A but definitely possible!

DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK!!! you do not need to buy the text book and only buy the novels as you are reading them in class because you may not need to read all of the books he gives out in the beginning of the semester. If you read books, quizes easy A. Hard grader on papers. Questions ppl ask in class are questions on the midterm/final. Go toclass

Hughes is very entertaining! One of the best Professors here at Loyola. However, he only gives about 5 grades. And is a very tough grader. His midterm and final are hard. He expects you to remember stories he tells in class about the assignment so Beware. I recommend his class although i barely pulled off a C.

Very nice guy but is very hard on grading. Knows alot about history and teaches it very well. For 101 you will have to read at 7 books and either have a quiz or write a paper on them, pretty difficult class but good guy.

Excellent professor. Great historian. You must pay attention and take notes in class. Don't buy the text--you don't need it. Read the novels. Tests are somewhat hard. He likes to use strange vocab and tests you on it. Definitely recommend him!

Dr. Hughes is my favorite professor at Loyoa. Hands down. He is so entertaining in class and rewards hard work, like all professors should. Even after the semester ended, I still go talk to him for fun. He knows his stuff and cares about his students.

Hughes is a great guy. I don't think attendance is mandatory but REALLY don't skip a class because you'll miss hundreds of years of history. Despite the fast pace he really gets to everything. I recommend bringing a laptop to class to keep up with the notes.

Hughes is the quintessential college professor. He really knows his stuff so be prepared to come to class ready to take notes. His tests are pretty hard but stay on top of the books/novels he has you read because the quizzes on those can help bring your grade up.

Be prepared to take lots of notes. I don't know if you HAD to show up to class, but if you didn't you were screwed. Hurled tons of information at you and you had to know all of it for exams. Had no idea what my grade was and didn't know how it was calculated. Nice guy, tough class. Work hard and you'll do well tho.

history nazi, expects you to know material as well as he does, and then asks the most random questions, tough grader. Does have you do a lot of work, but tons of notes. class is really boring. and the work he gives you is graded extemely especially papers. i sure as hell would try to avoid him.

He is very different but entertaining. He is a hard grader but willing to help. You take pages of notes each class and his midterm and final are tough but you learn soo much from the class and it is worth it. I would recommend his class.
