Comment:
Professor Manis is a good guy and decent professor, grades on a curve in which it's difficult to make an A but it's also difficult to get anything below a C. If you need this class for a degree unrelated to chemistry it's a solid choice, if you need chemistry II and beyond make sure you leave understanding the material...I didn't learn a thing lol.

The criteria in his chem ll course is definitely more difficult than his chem l. -Tests are open book and open note -Only takes role on the first day -Grades all assignments with a curve (If you score below the class avg, you get a C; if you score above class avg you get a B; if you score 10 pts above class avg, you get an A)

Mr. Manis is an extremely smart man who also happens to be a chemical engineer; go figure. Sometimes his level of intelligence hinders the students' ability to understand what he's teaching. However, he is always willing to help you if you go to him personally. I like him because he's laid-back and doesn't want his students to fail.

Comment:
Mr. Manis is a resourceful, chill person and will clarify any misconceptions during class. Some say he is hard, but all you have to do is pay attention in class because the notes and examples that he does on the board is similar to what is going to be on the test. The labs are easy to get a good grade on if you just complete it! 10/10 recommend!!

Comment:
Manis does a grading scale called a bell curve, which means that if you take the average of any particular assignment, that is where he'll grade. If it's higher than the average, then it's a B. If it's more than ten points above the average, then it's an A. Difficult to make an A or an F. I self-studied--his lectures do not help to pass his tests!

Manis is not even a teacher he's a retired chemical engineer. He will lose your test and tell you your grade is a 46. Which us a C in his class. Confusing huh? So is his class.

Great professor. If you work hard and do what you are supposed to do you will get an A or a B at least. People who don't like the class are the under achievers who don't want to put forth effort and therefore find his grading scale ridiculous.

Mr. Manis is a hard and confusing teacher. ALWAYS PRINT THE PRACTICE TESTS. Try to work out the problems before the test, and go to fatma for help she is patient. The tests have the same type of problems as the practice tests. I had 5 hour night class usually only lasted 3 hours. Turn in all labs two are extra credit. Lowest you can get is a c.

Comment:
Grading scale is ridiculous. Everyone knows he won't give lower than a C so he doesn't really try to teach. You can literally turn in a lab with just your name on it and he gives you a 60. Dream come true for underachievers. Not great if you want to learn anything.

Mr. Manis is an amazing instructor. I went in to chemistry scared and thinking I couldn't make an A but I did. Don't just hand in the lab report printed from the syllabus, make everything presentable in Microsoft Word. The experiments were really fun and the lectures were entertaining. My advice is to study as much as you can if you want an "A"

Great class, Prof. Manis is a exceptional teacher. Very helpful. Moves fast in lectures, slower in labs. Grades on a curve, and gives ample opportunity for extra credit. Doesn't take attendance. Best course I've taken so far, and I'm a second semester Junior.

I had absolutely no interest in chemistry and just wanted to get through the class as soon as possible. But Professor Manis made the class very interesting and related the assignments to real word events. I have an interest in chemistry now, I am so glad I took his class.

Grades completely on a curve regardless of how badly the entire class performs on an exam... which is awesome for mediocre students. Doesn't take roll, allows group lab reports. Strong emphasis on lab, weak on lecture and theory. I would not recommend this instructor for learning the fundamntals of chem prior to orgo or biochem.

Mr. Manis is a nice guy. He acts a little goofy but I guess it is part of his charm. He grades on a curve which is really helpful for people like me who only needs the class to get to my major. As long as you write down everything he writes on the board the tests should be pretty to the point. If I needed to take Chem 2 I would definately take agai

Want a so called "easy" pass (not easy A)? Take manis. At times he's willing to help. The prob. he's way to smart for his own good and ends up making things worse. Don't ask for him to explain things, worship your note-taking skills, your book, and the learning lab and you should come out with a C at least. You don't hardly anything from him.
