Comment:
Very boring!!!!!!! all he does is read his powerpoint under his voice so you barely understand what he is saying and he is very monotone. the tests are really lengthy and weird. He gives you 1 minute per question on the test, so if the test is 90 questions long, you have 90 minutes to write it. He means well but not a good proff! humor is very dry.

He's not a teacher you can expect jokes from, but what he does is teaches you what you need to know, provides the required material to study, and tests you. It's straightforward. If you're the type of person who learns best with that type of teaching method, this class is a great fit! Study the material, attend class, and you'll do well!

I don't recommend taking class with him. Lecture heavy, tough-marker, and very monotone (you'll be zZz-ing in his class.)

dropped my gpa, worse prof ever do not take him unless you have too. tests are so odd, don't know what the right answer no matter how much you study either memorize the whole textbook or fail.

Steven is straightfoward, there's no gimmicks or weird things to learn. He teaches in a way that allows someone to get a good mark through pure studying. The majority of his tests are MC, and he only asks for around 30 minutes of homework a week. Solid prof, I strongly recommend.

You will need your textbook, and you will need to read it cover to cover. Steven provides clear learning objectives for each exam that make studying easier. Reading the textbook and notes are not optional if you want to pass, over a quarter of the class failed the first exam. There's also a group paper, but he looks more at formatting than content.

I recommend you don't take Psychology 1200 with Steven because he either goes way to fast or way to slow through his lectures. Plus, his lectures don't compliment the textbook what so ever. He skipped over sections in his lecture due to time restriction, told us we need to learn it outside of class from the text, but still put in the test.

His classes were very interactive and enjoyable. Each lecture had fill-in-the-blank notes provided online which made lectures more enjoyable and forced you to pay attention, which I enjoyed. Tests were lecture and textbook based but very clear on the content. I believed I actually learned in the class and thoroughly enjoyed going to class.

Quite speaker. Monotonous. Assigned a group paper. Read the book & the notes and you will do well in tests. Skip a class and miss the fill in notes. You need the notes for the tests. It is a long class each week, but he doesn't teach stuff you do not need to know.

- I found he was using his powerpoints from past semesters of teaching the course. He hadn't updated them until we had noticed some errors or if he made funny comments such as "oh I haven't seen this happen in a while" meaning he hadn't looked at his slides since he last taught the class a year ago and was entertained by them.

I have taken 2 courses with Dr. Welch, intro 2 and abnormal psych, and I agree with other people that he is pretty boring, BUT Dr. Welch knows what he is teaching. He used to work at River View so he has real field experience and shares some stories. You will learn something from his classes regardless of whether you like him.

Amazing teacher!!! The material is really interesting. Steven does talk quietly but I always sit in the front so it wasn't a problem. The paper is an easy A and if you study you'll get a good grade. This is NOT a class for slackers. This is the best class I've taken at Douglas.

Talks extremely quietly, heavy textbook use. Test questions are mostly from the text. In-class lectures are profusely dragging and boring.

steve is a great prof; tough + a little odd, but teaches the material very clearly. good sense of humour! he's approachable + always answered any extra questions i had. took psyc 1200 + 2341 with him. In 2341 there's not much room for thinking critically + questioning the material tho. the group papers suck unless you get lucky with coworkers.

Lectures are intense. Tests are based half on textbook and half on lecture. I got a C- in his abnormal psyc but that's because I skipped 70% of the lectures, the 15% paper and only studied the textbook. His conceitedness and monotone kills me, hence my low attendence. If you can stand those, the class is recommended.

I was worried about this class because I'm not really interested in the content, but Dr. Welch made it bearable. Some of his assignments (the paper and presentation) were a bit daunting, but they go ok as long as you put in effort. Be sure to attend class as he doesn't provide powerpoints, but they follow the textbook really well if you do
