Dr. McRae is very passionate about the subject, but she can be very difficult to follow. The material is extremely difficult and there is TONS to remember. There weren't many grades other than tests and quizzes which were all very specific. I made an A- but that is only because I studied for hours almost daily.

Very disorganized in both her lectures and assignments. Does not give much detail on assignment criteria before tearing you to shreds. Little feedback on written assignments.

Susan McRae's class require a great deal of studying in order to make a decent grade. She does her best to present the information in class in a way that makes it easy to understand but because there is so much material you will have to go on your own time and fill in your notes. Her tests are very thorough and very specific.

Test is 8 pages of short answers & essays, no multiple choice but the material is something that has been mentioned in class. lectures are boring and very dry, not student inclusive at all. McRae grades harshly so put your best foot forward. she gives no leeway at all. she will not help you if you approach her outside office hours.

Super Easy A. Take Bio 1201 with this class, it's the key to passing with an A, you learn a lot in Lab, that almost directly applies to what you learn in class (She wrote the Lab Manuals). She's very knowledgeable and if you pay attention you'll pass with a decent grade no problem. SI sessions are not helpful. Course Material is very basic biology.

Dr. McRae is a really great professor and very smart. She LOVES birds, which can get repetitive in power points because a lot of the studies are on birds. If you skip class, you'll miss a lot of material. She gives a midterm and final (cumulative) and they are tough. Taking good notes was the key for me. A few papers are assigned, isn't easy grader

I've taken 3 of Dr. McRae's courses so far, and I think she's a great professor. As someone else stated below, she holds students to high standards. You'll love any of her courses if you're seriously interested in learning about the subject, but do NOT go in expecting an easy A. You HAVE to pay attention and study in order to do well.

I don't recommend taking Dr. McRae. She clearly knows a lot about biology, but she is not the best teacher. She gets confused and rambles a lot. Her tests are also very complicated and hard to understand. She gives a lot of opportunities to make a good grade, but you have to study A LOT and take extremely detailed notes in class.

While she is a challenging professor, she is fair. If you see her during office hours, she will help you out. She holds you to high standards, expects you to pay attention to her during lectures, and to attend class. Her quizzes and tests are mostly based off of her lectures, which are interesting. This class is good preparation for medical school.

This was my favorite class EVER. Lab practicals were on herp, bird, and mammmal identification and required some SERIOUS studying, but I think we all ended up doing well. Final was essay questions on broad concepts. Lectures were easy to understand and tied in well with what we saw in the field. Dr. McRae was a great teacher and i learned a lot.

Great class for those who want to know more about birds. I thought the class was pretty easy. The lab portion was not bad but the taxonomy is a bit challenging. Must know many families and orders. Obviously easier if you have some previous knowledge. Lots of cool field trips. One midterm, one final, one lab practical, few misc assignments.

Overall I liked her. Her class was directly from the book. Very interesting subject for me personally. I learned something and really enjoyed the class. We only had a midterm and a final and the tests overall were not bad, but they were very long and consisted almost entirely of essay and short answer type questions.

Good Teacher but I her test were confusing. If you study power points and write everything she writes on the board will help a lot. While she doesnt really check attendance if you want to do good in the class you have to go everyday. Depending on how well you do on the final there is a chance to improve you final up a letter grade.

I've had Dr. McRae for Bio 1200 and 3740 and I really like her. Her tests are tough but she puts all of her ppts online. If you ask her for help she's happy to answer any questions. I've even seen her allow somebody, in 1200, who overslept on a test date take the test later that day. All they just came to her office, explained, and asked her.

DO NOT TAKE SUSAN MCRAE!! she is not helpful and she has a bad attitude. She makes it clear that she is too busy to help students. Her office hours were ONE day a week(on a friday). Overall I regret taking her. If you can find someone else please save yourself.

unless you enjoy spending every night/day cooped up in your house/apartment/dorm, I highly recommend taking a different professor. shes smart, but is not great at getting the material across. the exams will make you want to quit college, and as far as asking her for help, she will ONLY talk to you in office hours, and GOOD LUCK finding her there

Good professor. Material is difficult b/c a lot of info is covered, but she was always willing to answer any questions I had through email/office hours. Optional tutorial sessions... very helpful. Three main tests (All MC). Six quizzes throughout semester & drops lowest. 100 question final, all MC, and is definition based). Study and you'll do well

I would not recommend Susan McRae. She is rude to the students and other staff, she does not seem comfortable teaching, and the lab manual she wrote was awful. The manual was confusing and the class and book did not have information needed to do the lab. She was never available and did not want to be bothered. Google got me through this class.

She was very unhelpful and did not want to be bothered, she was often confusing and I had to use the book often because I was so lost, and the lab manual she wrote required us to find most of the information someplace other than lecture, lab, book, or lab manual. So in other words... google.com got me through this class.
