Can I just say how much I love this woman? She allowed me to explore and learn in a way I don't think any other instructor has yet to achieve. The subtleties of her instruction can sometimes be lost on students overly concerend with ends, but if you care, you will reap the benefits of her teaching style. Thank you, Susanna.

She is an interesting prof, great lecturer. Class based on 4 essays (65%) participation (5%) and final (30%). The TA's do all of the marking, and they are hard markers. I wouldnt' suggest taking this class unless you are VERY interested in literary criticism. Not an easy class to get a good mark in. My worst grade on my transcript!

Susanna is a lovely prof and a great person to learn from. True, she's fussy about the little details like grammar use in essays, and she does tend to have rigid ideas of what she wants out of a class, but she's otherwise a font of wisdom. Very friendly during office hours.

I left UBC 10 years ago, but unless Egan's gone into some weird evil-making machine, she is totally undeserving of such slander as the loser on this site is hurling. She is ultra-caring, and I remember her always helping crying students on her own time. And she's a great teacher. She's one of the reasons I ended up becoming an academic myself

A good teacher. She helps if you ask for it. Not an easy marker, but gives detailed feedback on essays. Do not skip class - they're worth going for. Plan to attend as many as possible and participate actively. She scared me at first, but by the end of term I quite enjoyed her teaching style!

i love 19th century literature, but i will never take a course with her again. she is definitely knowledgeable and her lectures can be enjoyable but her marking is all over the place, she is the only teacher i've had who has given me everything from an A to a C.
