Suzanne Barnett made Asia come alive for me. A great teacher. Not stuck on 100% boring lectures, but willing to take a conversational style. Willing to both admire and criticize the countries we studied, since (something I learned in her class) there is no perfect society, including ours. I loved this course!

I was appalled by the fact that the university allowed such a woman teaching an asian history class. As an asian student I felt at times incensed by remarks she made of Asian culture... I would recommend just buying the books and reading them yourself. Honestly, it's just a discussion based class that criticizes the advancement of asian culture.

A paragon of being "tough but firm." She has a pretty incisive intelligence and can always tell if you're not doing the work. Her classes are always well worth the effort IMO.

Suzanne Barnett might be one of the worst professors I have ever had. Ever. She is unclear in her course description as to what the class is even about and wastes innumerable hours fostering "class discussion" that amounts to little more than oral masturbation on the part of the ego-inflated participants. She rarely teaches or even speaks in class.

Barnett is a very strict (but very good teacher.) Outside of class, she's actually really cool, if you're talking about subjects that interest her. Her classes require a decent amount of work and a lot of thinking.
