Comment:
Sue is super shy in class and has the most adorable laugh. She is more comfortable in office hours. She's great at helping if needed. The final paper is helpful as it lets you study a topic more greatly, it is marked pretty difficult though. Her assigments are also marked pretty hard but overall help boost the grade. Text book helps explains things

Comment:
Su is a very frustrating professor, despite her kind-heartened nature. Her lectures are super dependent on handouts. She rarely checks for understanding during her lectures and doesn't ever give students the ability to practice the material in a meaningful way. She also has extremely vague expectations for assignments.

Comment:
Su is the sweetest prof in the ling dept. She gets super nervous in front of a class, which I found super endearing while some of my peers found frustrating. Meet her during office hours, I think she is more comfortable in one-on-one situations. The research paper we had to do really helped my understanding of morphology.

Su is very kind, but if you're able to take 309 with another professor I would. And if you can't, I'd recommend at least taking 312 first so that you have some background in OT first. The class was difficult for students who didn't have experience from 312 and 311... Her lectures are not clear.

I've never met a nicer person. Not a very good professor for the lower courses but she has earned her place in Academia as a thoroughly excellent researcher and morphologsist. Deal with it I guess... Don't expect a high grade so factor that in your decision.

SUCH A FRUSTRATING PROF! She is incredibly kind hearted but I think even she didnt really know what she was suppose to teach us. A lot of her slides were so redundant.

Comment:
This class was ridiculous. The slides were like novels, she was very unclear in her expectations, and she struggled to convey her thoughts in coherent sentences. Although she seems like a really sweet lady, and I hear she is brilliant at other subjects, Research Methods is not her forte, and I strongly recommend avoiding the class if you can.

Comment:
Awful professor. Completely unclear about everything she covered, always seemed like a deer in the headlights. Strange nervous ticks, cannot finish her sentences, an awkward and unenjoyable experience in general. At least she is good-hearted and seems to actually care about the students. However, this does not her lack of teaching ability. Avoid!

Lectures can be quite unclear...but she is SO helpful if you go to see her in her office hours. Assignments and tests difficult-lots of material that wasn't explained well in class.

I think that she could be a good teacher for upper level classes, but she's not very good with the basic stuff. She's easily flustered and I think she gets stage fright about lecturing. She tries hard, but her explanations are unclear, and sometimes she'll just stop right in the middle of a sentence and trail off. Also, she has a nervous giggle.

Su is probably my favourite linguistics prof! 409 underwent a huge re-design this past year so it's much different from other 400-level classes. Lots of focus on data analysis, and she walks you through writing a theoretical linguistics paper. Su is super helpful and very knowledgeable!

worst. prof. ever. can't imagine a more disorganized, unclear, confused, flighty excuse for a teacher. the decision to change my minor was directly correlated with the hate for all things linguistics which was instilled in me just by being in her presence.

Excellent instructor. Easy to understand the concepts she teaches. Easy to follow along with exercises and examples... BUT tests/quizzes/assignments are considerably more difficult than in-class practice. Needs to find a better balance between difficulty of practice material and examples and test questions. Overall, good instructor.

A very friendly professor, but sooo unclear. She chose textbooks that didn't have much to do with what she taught and then relied on handouts. Lots of concepts were pretty fuzzy until I did extensive research on the internet. Despite this she is very approachable.

I took her class a few years back now. I STILL remember how much I hated it. She's nice, but she's not very good at explaining things, and in Linguistics, that's CRITICAL.
