Comment:
Suzie is very passionate about film, but it really feels like it's to a fault. She often goes on irrelevant tangents and repeats herself during lectures and it is so easy to just tune out until the movie. Contrary to what Suzie says about it not being a "bird" course (what kind of term is that, even?), it's very easy so long as you do the readings.

Provided a minimal number of readings for the course. The material covered in class was not relevant to the questions asked on the exams and the exam questions were worded poorly.

Did not offer a base to the course regarding what social practice was and the information surrounding its link to film and television. Did not provide notes, was extremely unclear in her explanations of course material and often would refuse to answer students questions.

This woman just goes on and on, droning in her awful voice, making the whole explanation convoluted and confusing.

one of the most difficult profs to follow. You spend more energy figuring out the relevance of what's talked about than on the course itself.

Good selection of films, terrible grading scheme. She is very nice and approachable. Really great film selection, probably my favorite of any CMS prof. Ended with a good grade somehow, others in the class had a bad experience. One girl burst into tears after a test. I think her problems can be explained by arbitrary grading rules.

I liked the course because I'm into movies but my liking isn't a reflection of her teaching..she is SO unclear and cannot explain stuff to the class, leaves most people confused. I'm a science major and got A's in this course but i know people with horrible marks. The course is great but the prof not so much!

Prof. Young is an incredibly knowledgeable prof that will go lengths to help you in any situation inside and outside of the classroom. She engage her students, and gives/takes feedback in a very respectful manner. Her seminars are well organized and her readings are helpful & informative, just as she is! I highly recommend taking any of her classes

Super easy routine, watch film, do ONE reading per week, write three tests. Compare films to readings. Easy as pie. Inept students felt the need to complain because they couldn't follow simple instructions. Dat entitlement. Class is super easy, only complaint is the poor film choice.

The routine is literally discussing terms and concepts of the day then watching a film in lecture. Tutorials are 50 minutes and you discuss the films there. A lot of material for tests comes from the textbook and the films or clips you watched in class. I found it really easy to follow and loved how Suzie stresses only the important concepts.

ITS A TRAP! The worst, dumbest, and clueless teacher. A teacher who provides no syllabus, adds in surprise questions on test. 75% of the class failed a test worth 40%. People were crying, one girl walked out after a verbal tirade. Best part:she always thinks she is in the right.and she restricts your amount of sentences on test; easy to screw up

This class was a joke. The entire class was 3 tests and two of the tests (Equalling over 80%) were based on the same awful feminist reading. PLEASE BE WARNED ABOUT THIS CLASS. It is not what you think. There is no structure and everything is made up on the spot. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Comment:
This is a non-majors course, full year course. I thought it'd be cool, watching cool movies and learning from that. Instead, we have all these foreign movies that are subtitled and extremely boring plus irrelevant. If you want to take a non-major, find another course unless Young is not the teacher.

I came into this class thinking it would be easy since it is for non-majors, but it was absolutely terrible. The lectures are boring and you get pop quizes

She repeats herself constantly about the most rudimentary topics, for instance, 'how to read'. I'd recommend doing your readings, because her lectures are Idiot's Guides to the legitimately interesting and educational readings. Get a list of 100 film masterpieces and a David Bordwell textbook and her class is irrelevant.

She is an awful professor. She has an annoying baby voice that is brutal to listen to and often repeats herself. She has a difficulty keeping the class engaged and can be an awful lecture to endure for 3 hours as a result.

Really easy to fail her class, even easier to get an A. If you go to her office hours she will not only give you the answers, but you will remember what she taught you forever. If you don't go, you will fail.

At first I thought Suzie would be a great prof. Then I realized that she isn't. The students teach the class through presentations. We attempted to email her prior to ours with no response. Not only that, but she is a terrible orator and teacher - she tries to be SO clear that what she says gets unbearably repetetive, and I just tune out. Brutal.
