Has no clear lesson plan and rambles. It's very hard to follow her train of thought and how it relates to the topic at hand. Gives random exercises in class. Does not review material from past courses much. Can be condescending to students too, and because of that doesn't seem approachable. Little mercy if you fail. Usually late to class.

Sylvie will teach by going over someone's work they handed in and and correcting its grammar for 30 minutes. I don't learn well this way but maybe some people do. I would prefer she go over the chapters in the book with us. She didn't teach a lot of the chapters that she includes in the test therefore it's a pretty "teach yourself" kind of class.

Awful teacher. Ridiculously high expectations. Picked on students that weren't doing well or missed any classes. Refused to answer questions or clarify saying "you would know the answer if you we're paying attention".

She's a very tough grader, however she tells you exactly what the grading criteria is. She does care about her students & she's very lenient. She explains very well and doesn't try to trick you, you either know the material or you don't. It's up to you to study. You'll look at your work differently once you're done with her class. Great prof.

Most students think she's hard, but they don't realize that's because their French still has a long way to go. Her perfectionism and hard grading can be discouraging at first, but your writing will improve if you apply her comments and suggestions. If you want to improve your French, take her; if you just want the grade, consider someone else.

She rambles on and on off topic, is not a very nice teacher, singles people out and puts you down. Expect a drop in your usual grades. Classes are useless, just study the book. But she does hold missed classes against you.

She is extremely knowledgeable in French. Her assignments are fair, as she gives clear instructions. If you do the recommended homework from the book, you should be fine. I learnt a lot from her and her assignments were always interesting. Just show her that you're working hard

She is tough but she knows her stuff through and thorough, and is willing to help if you ask for it. The course is demanding and the readings are long, boring, and dreadful. However, she is such a tough marker and a perfectionist that from now on you will be more aware of your writing style and weaknesses. I also have her for TRAN 2210.

Pretty much what everyone else here has said. No matter how good you are, she will find an error. However, she will help you learn what you need to work on. She does go off tangents during her lectures, but she is willing to listen to students and will give you help if you ask for it. Great class, but be prepared to work!

She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to French grammar. If you're not proficient in French, don't take this class. She accepts nothing less than perfection and is an extremely hard grader. She's very helpful but extremely condescending and snobby. She is very full of herself. Your self esteem will drop as well as your grade.

Of course shes demanding, the course is geared to French native speakers. Even though you may be fluent, she will find mistakes! Course website is indeed confusing. Difficult to stay focused in her class because of her tangents and droning voice. Worth it if you can though :3

I completely detested that idiotic website she set up which was always so confusing between group A and B. She thinks we all have advanced training in grammatical language and usage which results in ridiculous explanations that make little sense to students. On a personal level as well I did not find her pleasant.

She really helped me improve my French after a bad start with a way-too-easy 0400 teacher who I won't name. Getting a good grade with her was a challenge, but one worth taking. She really loves teaching. I would have loved to have her again this semester...
