Be ready to read ALOT for the midterm and understand the content if you want a decent grade, make sure to take notes on the comments he says regarding the novels, poems, and the first book read in class. Study HARD for the final exam since it is difficult to memorize a lot of different content. Go to class because he marks it down for participation

Professor Ruml is a kind and generous professor. You can tell that he used to be a lot tougher with his expectations and has softened some over the years. This is not bad you will have to read...a lot. There will be pop quizzes. At first he seems serious but if you bring interesting convo he will engage interestingly. I would take him again.

This class had a midterm, a final and one paper. There is ALOT of reading and you don't really discuss it in class. He basically just reads to the class, pauses to make a comment and then keeps reading. He reads ALOT and then expects you to be able to recognize small excerpts for the midterm and final. It's tough so you have to really work!

Single worst English class I have ever taken. As an English major, I expected it to provide me benefits with old literature, but he simply read from the book! How can one possibly sit for two hours and hear him read? And the midterm was absolutely ridiculous; he expected us to know small quotes from a 400+ page book! DO NOT take this professor.

I love english, especially literary discussion. Worst english class I have taken. No discussion, he just sits and reads out loud to the class. His tests are ridiculous. (Gives a four line section from a random piece from the entire quarter and expects us to name the author and title). He is an easy grader for the 4 "homework" essays.

Professor Ruml is very enthusiastic about the material. If you want to do well in his class, make sure you keep up on the reading and pay attention during lectures, as that is where he pulls a lot of the questions on the exams from. He has very detailed lectures, which is helpful if you do not completely understand the reading. Ask questions!

Professor Ruml is one of those professors whose notes all over the place. He is sometimes unclear on what he says. He tries to be funny, but most of the time it's just him laughing at his jokes. Reading is mandatory if you want to pass. 2 midterms, 1 essay, and a cumulative final on the readings. Class is bearable. Somewhat easy.

Ruml seems to be boring but he really isnt . If you do the readings the class lectures are really good . You can tell he loves these books . He explains all the important parts so its best to record every lecture . Whatever he writes on the board is important . No homework except the readings and 1 essay .There are 3 exams but theyre super easy .

Three exams in his class and the final is cumulative! No homework and no other tools to study. He doesn't even offer the study guide before the exams. The only reference that you can study for the exams is some "important notes" (some words he thinks important for the exam) and the notes you took in the class.

Great professor, pretty easy, but very boring. If your looking for a professor that doesn't ask alot...take him...I had him for 2 classes and I didn't have much homework. He does assign alot of reading, but it is not mandatory...you can pass without reading all of it...

All the professor does is read from the book and explain a few references here and there. Seriously, I leaned more from online notes like spark notes. The only reason you might even consider attending his class is if you need specific details from the book such as time lines. But even those do not appear on the test. Essay is easy to pass.

Yawn! He read from the text in a monotone voice. If you don't agree with him, he'll blow off your question. It is a poetry class, and he wants two 5-page essays on a certain type of poetry. Also a portfolio of all your work in the quarter. He most likely will give you one grade lower than what you deserve.

I had to meet with him when he was fillng in as Departmen Chair. He noticed I'd taken his class and made a comment that he'd never seen me in class. I felt like saying "how would you know if I attended class?? You were too busy reading last night's assigment outloud to us".... lol His is a class you'll need some coffee before attending...

I always felt challenged in this class and I think he really likes to teach. He was very receptive to other ideas and wasn't like some of the extreme English professors I've had at this college. He seems like a really nice person who wants his students to succeed. I recommend him.

Mr. Ruml is a good teacher, I've almost completed his class and I had no problems with his grading. I'll probably get a low mark, but I deserve it. He is a very good teacher and I'd like to take him again sometime.

Professor Ruml Reads all of the assigned text aloud in class. The course work is pretty easy but the lectures are very boring and have little to no discussion. His criticism on returned papers can be harsh at times with no compliments (even on A papers).

Prof. Rummel has a method to his maddness. He does grade a little hard, more like truthfully. Very useful constructive crit. He really taught me self dependence in writing. To research, write, analze,& critic my own writing. At first you might not like it, like someone who doesn't want to clean their room, but after you will be happy at the result.

Although he reads to the class (which can be boring most days), he does present interesting/needed info about the time that the narratives were written (helpful). He's lenient when it comes to (late) term papers and I'd recommend speaking with him immediately if you have Any problems with the course material--he's willing to help!

I have taken several classes with Ruml and yes he does read aloud in class and it may seem boring but he breaks the text down well and is always good for a laugh or two. Give him a chance you'll enjoy it but make sure to keep your comments on a rational level. If you had/have the/a theater major in his class like i did who decided to argue animal rights when we were reading and discussing gullivers travels you'll get to see his quick wit and sarcasim.

His class was okay. I wasnot impressed with his class. I loved some of the reading but he just read to us. I felt "What was the point of reading if he was going to read to us?"
