I graduated York film 20 years ago. The first few weeks she drove me nuts. But looking back over the last 20 years, she is the only proffessor I remember. Not only was her class the most useful class I have ever taken (not for technical reasons) at York but no one has ever left a more lasting impact. I learned about life. Thank you Tereza.

I have never learned more in my life! The first few days with her are shocking but after that she isn't so scary. She does have certain tastes, though, and doesn't like films that aren't 'fiction' in the traditional sense. But she isn't afraid to call you on anything and I think every filmmaker needs someone to do that at least once in their lives.

Tereza isn't afraid to tell you if your film is sh*t and thats a good thing because most people need to be brought down to earth. If she see's that you're determined and talented, she'll drill you and squeeze the talent and genius out of you. Best prof at york apart from amnon. If she doesn't really care for you - there's something wrong with you.

York has successful, real filmmakers like Greyson, Hoffman, Longfellow, Kazimi who rock as teachers and filmmakers. Then there's failed, dead wood like Tereza--hasn't made a film in years (ever?) and seems bitter and worse, not very bright. Close-minded in regards to films that aren't 'fiction' (meaning plodding, straightforward narrative). Avoid!

After being out of film school for a while, I realise most of the people who want to go into filmmaking probably shouldn't. Tereza's discouragement and harsh criticism, while probably not nice for the person it's directed at, is probably for the greater good of human culture if it discourages idiots with inflated egos from thinking they're artists.

While most students seem to hate Tereza, it's only because she doesn't cater to their egoistic fantasies. I will admit that she's terrible at giving feedback on and approving scripts, but she's spot on when it comes to her feedback on rushes or rough cuts.
