This teacher is one of those that will make the material seems so hard to a point in which you'll need to cheat for you too pass. History 108 itself is not so hard but this teacher will make it seem like your taking Discrete Math or something. Do not take, she will make you hate life.

Such a funny/sarcastic woman (which i love), but just not a good teacher. Do not walk infront of her (she gets really mad). Do not ask questions during class, she wont answer, she'll tell you to look it up in the book. Tests are very hard, study guides are unorganized, essay questions are impossible. I do not recommend taking her class.

simple class, just take notes and pay attention. Midterms and finals are easy everything is the study guide. Imo she does a good job giving her class. Don't know how anyone can fail her class unless they don;t show up.

Terrible teacher, she obviously needs to retire. She goes off on weird little tangents and should just stay home with her cat. She was probably a good teacher when she was in her prime but she's too old to be teaching now.

Hard Teacher. Little old lady whom hates it if you ever walk in front of her. There are 3 major tests, 2 novel tests, and a bunch of mini quizzes throughout the semester. Each midterm is about 40 questions and then a 4 page essay to be done in one hour. Have to read 1 textbook and 2 novels. Hard tests and boring lectures, Take someone else.

I took Mrs.Valverde this past semester (Spring 2010) and I loved her class! It's very helpful if you, as she's lecturing, take notes directly on the study guide that she hands out. Also, read the chapters before each class, it really helps. Not too fond of the essay questions, but they actually help you to understand the concepts.

If you are a slacker, misses class a lot, and do not take notes, then this is not the class for you! Although this is only a three unit class it is a lot of work, reading that is. Every class is just a lecture, no powerpoint. Study guides are given. If you follow the study guide and read the book then you will do fine.

Comment:

Took HIST 108 and HIST 109 this past summer and got A's in both classes. All you gotta do is play by her rules. Tests are multiple choice only and you get study guides for the questions. Takes notes on the study guides and its an easy A. Her pet peeve is people walking in front of her while lecturing. Sit near the exit if you have to get up.

Mrs. Valverde gave out sheets of paper to use as a study guide but sometimes they were hard to finish because of so many references. However, as a teacher she gets a very high grade because of her humor and good understanding of the subject. Take her if you don't mind a extra work.

If you want to know the History of California, take this professor. She is very knowledgeable on the subject. Test are somewhat hard, but her study guides are helpful, however, you need to pay attention in class and take lots of notes. Ms. Valverde is a nice lady. If you are serious about learning, you will gain lots of knowledge in her class.

I loved her so much I took every history class she teaches & I'm a business major.She has an adult sense of humor & that's why the kids don't think she's funny.The class is super easy if you take notes & pay attention.She tells you exactly what will be on the test.She does have some wonderful stories.
