I though Thom was a halarious, entertaining professor. He surprisingly was able to make English interesting! He is a tough marker but gives great feedback on essays and truly makes you you for a good grade. We had to write 3 separate essays in his class, so be prepared to write! Make sure to keep up with the readings too as you're tested on them.

Thom is hilarious! I hate English, I suck at it. So naturally I was dreading taking this course, but Thom made it interesting and fun. His marks are fair and gives good feedback. The only negative thing I can say is that he doesn't use D2L so don't expect his power points online, be prepared to take your own notes in class!

Thom s one of the best teachers that I have ever had! He is very intelligent, kind, and funny. He excepts you to read the material before class because he likes to have class discussions on what you've read. He also loves doing short in class writings. He is a hard marker but If you come prepared to class, you'll do great!

Initially, I wasn`t too sure about Thom, but looking back, I enjoyed his course a lot. As others have noted, he is a hard marker, and expects that you`ve read everything for that week, attend class, and give essays your all. He`s able to make discussions fun and thoughtful, though he goes off topic a lot. Very approachable and understanding, too.

Thom is the best English teacher I have ever had but he marks very hard. He loves active writing and HATES passive. (Look it up, you'll thank me) He is so interesting and funny and you learn a lot but you will not get an easy A If you want to learn, he's the prof for you. Go see him when he asks you to it really helps.

Thom was a delightful instructor. If you come to class prepared, on time and without any electronics on you will be fine. He claims to make a bit differently, the highest grades are for those he feels write at level a grade or more above. Thom is invested in his students, he is hard and fare. I took this class in the wee hours of the morning, and I NEVER FELL ASLEEP! This is how interesting his classes were! He is very down to earth and makes the conversation interesting. I never felt uncomfortable participating in discussion and felt that my grades in the course were fair. Be prepared to be engaged! You won't regret taking his class!

U never realize how time flies by with Thom. Funny,interesting, entertaining. Papers and exams might come as a shock bc they're serious, so work hard! Memorize all the authors for poetry and short stories, u'll need it!

Thom Bland is one of the best profs I've had at Camosun. Attendance was required at least 80% of the time to pass which might upset people, but the class was easy to sit through and interesting. I learned a lot in his class and he had a good sense of humor. He's a hard marker, but fair. Easy to talk to and approachable.

Thom was an absolute joy to have as a teacher. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants a challenge. His assignments are a bit tricky and he is a hard marker (fair, but hard), but I feel that this was really helpful in preparation for the next level of English. If you don't want to work hard and participate than I suggest you avoid this class.

He is nice, funny and very approachable but the classes had no structure. We discussed short stories every class, and only had a few classes with useful help for our writing. We never got instruction on MLA, APA or any writing formats. Since our entire mark (except class participation) was from written essays, it was hard to improve our writing.

I'm currently a fourth year English Major at the University of Victoria and looking back two years ago when I took eng 282 with Thom he still tops the list of the best English profs out there. If you have the chance to take any class with him as a prof sign up right away - you can't lose and you won't regret it!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

This man is a national treasure. I bet there aren't five English teachers on the continent who love their job as much as he does, and he makes it contagious. He's also one of those teachers who actually care about getting to know their students, and he's very approachable. I challenge someone not to love Thom, the guy even looks like a Teddy Bear.

Great guy! could probably crush a bull with his bear hands but is really the sweetest teacher out there! he really cares about what his students have to say, very flexible when it comes to the readings, very fair marker, easy tests if you take class notes and roughly follow the readings. Great teacher, great class, Highly Recommend!!!!

Honestly, the best teacher I've ever had. His approach to the subject matter is so stress-free and relaxed that it makes it enjoyable to learn with him. Friendly, caring, energetic and overall respectable teacher who brings the classroom back to the way it was intended - learning for the sake of knowledge not just to get a letter grade
