He is respectful of his students, is understanding, and truly does his best to make the classes interesting and educational. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I have taken two of his classes and would gladly take more.

I like that Tom uses a lot of technology and is good at it. It can be easy to get distracted or fall asleep because of his mellow voice. He knows a lot about his topics. Make sure you do all the reading. He relies on discussion for the bulk of his class which I sometimes find a waste of time. His marking feel very "fair" and it can be hard to excel

Tom was a pretty easy and chill teacher. He lets the class out an hour before almost every lecture, and his essays are fairly easy. Quizzes are open book, final are open book, and no midterm! Highly recommend him, even though sometimes his marking schemes are a little odd.

Tom was great! I really enjoyed having him as my English Composition prof! Super helpful on assignments and essays, as well as a fair marker. I would take his class any day of the week! Tom is a nice and funny guy, dry at some points, but still an excellent prof. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a good English prof!

I have to agree with a previous poster. The first few weeks were very dry and boring. You get a lot of quizzes in class on really boring readings, but all quizzes and exams are open book. Gives great feedback on your essays which allow you to improve in your writing.

Very easy class, he lets you use open notes for quizzes and finals. Class can be boring because he analyzes every sentance of the story. You can use sparknote for most of the stories and get a faster analysis.

At first, I thought it was going to be a long semester, but I soon grew to really like his teaching style. He analyzes each story in great detail and is great at elaborating on students comments. His assignments are fairly easy and he offers really good feedback when he marks. Just beware of the ?micro theme? assignments. Overall, really good

Tom is extremely enthusiastic about his English Literature. He goes very in depth with all of the short stories and is crystal clear with his explanations. He is organized and gives good feedback for the two in-class essays and research essay you will have to write. If you want to get an A or higher, answer his questions and bs with him :)

If a teacher can make Canadian Poetry interesting... well that says a lot about the teacher. Friedman allows students to come up with new insight about an author rather then just expressing his views about a work.

Course includes weekly quizzes on readings & an oral presentation. Very open to students'own interpretations of poems as long as they are backed up with support from text. Limited office hours, but helpful if you do see him outside of class.
