Comment:

Professor Hueglin is a badass. If you don't take the course seriously, he wont take you seriously, which is fair. Many of people complain about his marking scheme. He grades papers, exams and group presentation on understanding. If you don't have a clear understanding of a philosopher's main points, you simply wont do well. Be prepared to grind.

He is really passionate about what he teaches about and I truly find it interesting, but his grading is really vague, not transparent, and it honestly seems like he makes it up as he goes. I get that he is crazy tenure, but I feel like the system does not help students succeed!

Comment:

Dr. Hueglin is an amazing person, and is really passionate about what he teaches. However, political philosophy is a bit boring, so his lectures can hard to sit through. If you go to his office hours, he is incredibly helpful, and such a nice prof. He doesn't use MLS, so you need to make sure you are clear on the expectations.

Dr. Hueglin is very intelligent, he clearly knows a lot and is an excellent lecturer. However, his grading is very tough. He would be great to listen to as a guest speaker, and I would love to take more of his classes because he is very good at what he does... but similarly I would not expect to get a good grade in his classes.

did not enjoy this class. The marking was completely arbitrary and seemed to have absolutely no basis. The weighting is extreme, so be prepared to cry if you get a mark lower than you thought (which is completely inevitable). Nice enough man, not at all helpful in office hours. Will not offer feedback on papers. I found it a tad bit unfair.

Really smart and knows his stuff. Can be funny and interesting in lecture. Overall a nice guy and good lecturer. However, he does not give clear instructions, he seems to only give out B marks, his feedback is next to nothing, and the weighting of marks is extreme. If you mess up on one part of the course, be prepared for a poor mark overall.

Me again, continuing on...He is an extremely intelligent person and knows his material very well making him an excellent prof. His lectures are also interesting and well structured (following a similar format as his book). Provided you attend class, do the reading, and ask for further direction (outside of class) you will do well. TED B

Dr. Heuglin is not scary, and despite the rumours, he is not a socialist and "following his socialist views" will not help. What does help is learning the material and writing a good strong paper. I have gotten to know him and he is very nice and very helpful. He is perhaps one of the best professors I have had so far and really enjoyed his class.

AWSOME PROF! is funny and fair marker...even if in an essay u dont get the overall point of the philosophers works..he awards marks based on the ambition of topic and quality of sources which represent effort into the essay. The presenation, although nervwrecking, is prolly the best thing a prof has done, has helped me tremedously, take this class

Not a bad guy for sure. Trys to keep lectures interesting and does as good a job as any of full timers. Still, disapointing depth of comments in essay review and the same old B he gives everybody. Maybe he'd better in seminar formate.

At times after his lecture I felt the urge to give him a standing ovation - he's that good. Very hilarious, intelligent, and as quirky as you would want a professor to be. His lectures are easy to follow and his expectations of the course are clearly defined. He yelled at some students who came in late, which revealed his old school nature.

He's funny and nice... makes himself available to students to help and gives everyone a good mark on presentations, but can be a bit of a hard essay marker so see him before you hand it in if you want a better grade.
