Professor Magnell was the best teacher I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. When lecturing, he relates things to everyday life and current events. He is by far one of the brightest people I've ever met in this lifetime and I truly thank him for making me a better writer/thinker. Would definitely take him again!

Such an inspiration! Every time I got to talking to him, I walked away feeling that the entire day was not a loss. It's a privilege to have met someone so intelligent, so knowledgeable about all sorts of academic fields, and so charismatic. He's funny, clever, and willing to talk about anything. Love him!

An amazing professor. I wish people would stop complaining about his "rightist" views--funny thing, I never here anyone complaining about all the professors who blatantly profess their "leftist" views. And if he is "arrogant," he deserves to be--the guy's a genius!!

Interesting lecturer, although long winded at times. Also a bit full of himself. Not a very fair grader at all, unless you are a favorite. ALWAYS kept us late.

Magnell lectures a lot, and his classes can get boring because he takes wild tangents, but he is always open for discussions with his student, and even gives private hour and a half lecutres in his office, if you need help.

This guy is a genius. I took two of his classes and wasn't even a Philosophy major. Classes open you up to complex thought, and teaches you how to argue your position. He does lean right, but then all the others lean left so it balances out. He is only arrogant when met with typical Drew liberal hippy arrogance. Go T-Mag!

The best teacher ever, he is a little eccentric but in an awesome and crazily smart way. Not quite sure why people think he presses a political agenda, since he has never brought up anything of the sort in class. He has made me want to switch my major to philosophy.

Completely disorganized--lost my paper TWICE and blamed me. Arrogant. Must love his ultra-right agenda to get a good grade. No worthwhile feedback just comments about grammar many of which are wrong. (Yeah, Prof. Ego, we have an English department at Drew, and they'll check your "corrections" on student papers if asked.) WORST. PROFESSOR. EVER.

Comment:
That some people think this guy is a good professor is a sad indication of the quality of education offered at Drew. He's arrogant, dogmatic, egodriven, and loves to show off in front of students and hear himself talk-that's why he's so "accessible". When you ask questions about the text, he blusters, as he hasn't read anything in years. Worthless.

Very intelligent. Must agree with his political agenda.Arrogant and disparaging. Very Old world boys club. Not good for your dissertation if you aren't "scholarly"- in other words work on doctorate for 10 years full time with no other commitments . Quick to dismiss students who aren't photocopies of him. Makes promises and appointments can't keep.

good teacher... total jerk. you'll learn a lot, but you'll hate his guts. he won't respect your opinions. he'll interrupt you. he'll ramble on about his own irrelevant ideas. he'll make you want to scream. he barely masks his hyper-right political agenda. woe betide you if you don't agree with his ideas. captain ego needs to calm it down.

Good teacher. Probably the smartest prof at Drew, although it's hard to squeeze inside his tiny little office with his ego. Is attached to his opinions and can be harsh to those who disagree with them; not recommended as a thesis advisor. He is meticulous about making sure your grammar, punctuation, and references on your papers are immaculate.

One of the best lecturers I ever had at Drew. Outside of class he can also be very engaging and thought-provoking. However, he is very careless with students' papers, references, applications, etc. He can also be arrogantly disrespectful.
