He contradicts himself and a correct answer on a quiz, may be incorrect on the test. Nice guy, but no idea how to lecture

He's a very nice man that truly loves history. That aside, if you are not willing to put at least 15 solid hours a week into reading and studying the 30 pg chapters you will not do good in this class. I'm an A/B student and had to withdrawal because I would have gotten nothing better than a D. You must love history and have time to pass this class.

If you don't like straight lecture don't take this guy, but he's super nice and the class is a breeze, frankly. Two open note tests and a 10-12 page term paper. Grading is lenient. Attendance not mandatory, but recommended. Read the textbook.

I took professor Woods 2 semesters in a row (Renaissance and Reformation, and History of American Law) and both times I enjoyed the class. I was typing almost constantly during the lectures, but the tests are open note. The subject matter can be boring, but that can't be helped. If you have issues with your term paper, he is willing to help.

Knows his stuff, but is hard work! 10 page research paper, will be called on in class to present law cases, in class essays. If not interested DO NOT TAKE!

His teaching style is all lecture from beginning to end of class, without pause. In class essay exams, open note. He gives about 10 vague statements on what the essay might be on, and there will be around 5 choices for what to write about in the test. It's doable, but will take some effort, if only to stay awake in class

I love his classes. Sure he's not the most exciting professor in the world, but he really knows what he's talking about. Just read the textbook and go to class and you really can't do bad. If you're interested in the subject, he's a great professor. If you're just taking his class for a requirement, I'd suggest you find a different professor.

He's a pretty down to earth guy. History is history so you can't really make it all that interesting. As long as you pay attention and read the textbook you'll be fine on the quizzes and tests. There's no major hw. He's a cool dude.

Easy to understand professor, really seems to enjoy the Renaissance time frame and made class very interesting. Essay tests weren't so fun but there were always 3 essays to choose from so if you knew at least half the material you'd do fine. Doesn't use webcourses and doesnt post test dates on syllabus so showing up to class is highly recommended.

I took American Legal History. Attendance isn't really mandatory but if you go you have to be super prepared because he will call you out to explain cases. Sort of intense. Paper was very difficult, and he was sort of vague about what he wanted for the in class tests. Would not recommend.

Enjoyed this class pretty well. Loved hearing about the Renaissance. He was always on time and never missed a class. Quizzes were a little hard but you can do well overall because there is one every week.

DON'T TRUST THIS PROFESSOR! He said that he wouldn't fail anyone if they came to class, took all of the quizzes, and did all the work. He did not keep his word for many students. He was very boring to listen to and didn't even seem to care about Western Civ. or his students. Avoid him like the plague!!!

Worst professor in the world! If you want an F take this class. A/B students will fail. You will only pass if you can remember every single sentence in a 30 page chapter. Half of the quiz questions are from the wrong book. The group project is 25% of your grade and if you get a bad group you are out of luck.

Nearly didn't take this class because of some of the neg comments... they are so far off. Awesome teacher, pretty easy if you keep up and read. Interesting lectures, and pretty sarcastic if you get him going. If you aren't into history then maybe you won't like him, but otherwise hes awesome!

2 Tests, 1 Paper, the tests are essay but he gives you the questions before hand. Highly enjoyable and extremely easy, only 1 book for the class, just stay ahead of the cases and read the material for an easy A. He's a lawyer currently in practice so he knows his stuff.

I took him for American Law History. He would go off on tangents talking about things that did not seem relevant. His paper is graded harsh and when I asked for clarification on what he wanted he answered sarcastically and never answered my question. Don't take this guy if you dont have to.

Professor Woods is not at all an easy professor but I found the class to be a "challenging" ease. AMH is a history course and ALOT of reading and studying has to be done. Woods issues weekly quizzes, a midterm, a final and a book review. Once the student reads, studies and pay attention to his lectures he/she should be fine!

Do not bother reading the book, just attend class and take good notes on the cases. It is basically an easier version of Constitutional Law. Make sure and participate in class discussion, but you don't need to worry about the final because he gives you a study guide and it is all essay questions. His grading is harsh on the paper, be prepared.
