Comment:
The course of Mr. Smith was very entertaining, shared many perspectives of the welfare State and I learnt a great deal throughout this class. Only issue would have been the workload (2 books plus readings necessary for exams), but it is really not that bad since the prof makes it so appealing and he is a very nice grader (he curved our class).

Professor Smith is a seasoned lecturer with an excellent sense of humour. Grading is fair and not demanding. The readings are a worthy time investment. He provides subtle, but helpful hints for the assignments. I can unequivocally assert that he genuinely wants students to do well. I would highly recommend taking this class.

Tim was one of the best professors I had in my 4 years at Queen's. He is thoughtful and cares deeply about his students. He also writes fantastic reference letters and is genuinely interested in the path his students take after they leave his class.

One of the best professors at Queens that I have had. I have never leaned about more current subjects more from one course than in HIST 253- History of Public Policy- history, social policy, politics, economics. Funny, informative, helpful with essays. Very confident with his teaching, as he knows a lot. Highly recommended.

Do yourself a favour, take his course. He is incredibly supportive and really rewards the students who work hard. The readings are long, but not all of them are scholarly works so it makes it much better. His seminar discussions are great and he really appreciates student feedback!

He assigns a lot of readings, and the papers are long. But he is the best Prof I have ever had in my 4 years at Queen's. I wish I had taken another one of his classes. Genuinely cares about his students if you put in the effort. Such an intelligent person, extremely personable and favours organic seminars. Highly, highly recommend him.

The material he teaches is interesting and will be particularly useful to history and geography students. I enjoyed this course despite lectures being at night and on the longer side. Overall I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more 'normal' and down-to-earth prof at Queen's who is also extremely fair.

Smith is a very intelligent prof who knows Public Policy inside our and upside down. His slides contain a lot of information, but he is usually very clear what he wants you to get out of them. Pretty clear on how the assignment needs to be done. Helps to have a bit of understanding of economics or politics, but not necessary. Overall my fav prof!

With out a doubt the best prof at Queen's. This guy rocks, and somehow managed to make a monday night class interesting. He's extremely helpful and will go well beyond for his students. I've never taken a politics course and I absolutely loved it. This class should be mandatory. Well done Sir, well done.

A really great prof! You can tell he is just super passionate about public policy and economics. He expects a LOT of reading for class but is a very fair marker. Took our seminar out for beers on 3-4 occasions. He also keeps a record of his former students' grades and marked papers so he can write detailed reference letters. A real stand-up guy.

Really nice dude. Probably the most helpful prof I've ever had. Marks fairly and wants student to enjoy the material as much as he does. I would recommend 253 to anyone interested in politics and economics.

Really nice, fair, flexible prof who respects student feedback. But the design/structure of the course was an absolute mess. Expecting us to read four hefty books plus 20-odd other lengthy articles and chapters was way beyond the amount of reading I have seen required for any other half-term 200-level history course.

Decent proff, weak class structure, heavy readings, very fair marker and has genuine interest in the subject and his students. Do not take his courses if you have little to no understanding of economics its all he talks about, HIST 410 was far from a history course, it was nearly pure econmics. wouldnt recoment HIST410

One of the best Professors I have had in my 4 years here. The material presented was extremely interesting and relevant to the issues of the day. Prof Smith is extremely helpful when you go to see him and he remembers your name (which, for many Queen's profs, seems to be a hard thing to do). All in all, he is a great prof and a great guy.

Great professor for History of Public Policy! Although at times the reading was heavy, the marking was extremely fair (one might even say easier than most other 200-level courses) and the course content was great. Professor was extremely accessible and went the extra mile for his students!

whoa! Someone got a bad mark in Hist 410! To my dear classmate (there's only been 25 of us who have taken this class so I must know you): How can you not appreciate a professor who clearly does so much for his students? Tim Smith is the man - though he drove me crazy at times, I still think he is awesome.

Are you kidding me? Tim is great! My advice to any students using this site to gauge their potential profs - don't make that mistake... never substitute someone else's judgement for you own! The rating below is an anomaly amongst a sizeable sample of favourable reviews - bitter student perhaps?

Smith is a regular man. He is neither exceptional nor is he any different from the other self-absorbed academics. So, I suggest that you ridiculously misguided followers remove this man from the pedestal you have so liberally placed him upon.
