Comment:

He is very condescending, goes off on EVERY tangent, and claims that the entire class is struggling is due to poor planning on our part. The class is so inconsistent. He let's you redo some of the quizzes, but then others he won't. It seems as if you show up you'll pass, but don't expect to actually learn something. FYI, the book is no help either!

Comment:

If you don't have time management skills, I would not recommend this class. It is such a hard class but easily the most valuable class I've ever had so far. He connects you to people that has connections and life lessons to share, and gives you opportunities&experiences you probably can't find any where else! Get ready to teach yourself everything!

I had fun in his class, though I was worried about my grade most of the semester because I didnt do well on the quizes. But I guess it turns out that if you show up and do the homework and labs then you'll still pass. Sometimes during lectures he'll get distracted by something out the window but otherwise he was a good teacher.

Comment:

Only take him if you hate yourself. Very rude towards students that don't participate, and if you do and say something incorrect, he'll belittle you just because he's a physicist and knows everything in the world. Very strict phone policy and attendance. Makes you calculate your own grade. Points on all assignments are undeterminable, except tests.

He is VERY condescending towards students. 90% of the class he is rambling on about things unrelated to the course so be prepared to teach yourself. The majority of the class has FAILED the first 2 quizzes but he seems to think it's because we don't study "efficiently." Worst teacher Ive ever had. AVOID his class at ALL costs !!

Professor Dave gets you ready for University type work loads. Easily the hardest class ive ever taken. By the end of our LAB we had a total of 30 typed pages worth the work in total. I stayed up late most weekends finishing his papers. That being said, hes smart, and very funny. Do the extra credit meetings, hes an inspirational person!

This teacher is out to make his course as tough as possible. He puts so many obstacles infront of his students to fail. It's like he tries to see how many students he can get to drop out of his classes, Instead of wanting students to succeed. I would not recommend anybody take his classes unless it's a must .

He used 13 quizzes to grade this semester for 4b. It was completely self pace and pretty difficult. You have to get an 85 on each quiz just to move forward in the course, and if you get stuck you're done. There's also an enormous group project and a poster project. He's a very nice man if you sit and talk with him though, very inspirational.

He seemed to be almost drunk or high half the time but because of that he was a really easy grader and as long as you put something down in the lab and writing part of the assignment that showed you tried you got credit for it.

Tim Dave is a lonely man who takes our his frustration and hurt on his students. He's a great source of information and a good conversationalist if you want to sit down and talk with him--but avoid him at all costs if you plan on learning anything about physics. By way of example, my entire class got an F on his first 2 quizzes...

The work load is a lot however it is not hard at all just tedious. All test are open book, and internet so the only reason you should have any problem passing them is if you're an incompetent person who can't use Google. Lectures are dreadful, and boring with little to no actual conversation pertaining to astronomy.

Seriously consider reorganizing your schedule to not include whatever class Tim Dave is teaching. Try taking the class another semester with a different teacher if you can. This guy is by far the worst "teacher" I have had in 3 semesters at Chabot. I came into this class very interested in physics, but he has since taken all my interest away. :(

Prof. Dave seems like he knows what he's talking about. He has lots of field experience...but he doesn't teach! He doesn't have lectures...he provides helpful videos, and answers questions very well, but he doesn't have any lecture/guideline for learning...which may be challenging for some. Comment:

One of the hardest professors I have ever taken. His exams are tough but he does allow you to redo them for full credit. Dave works very long hours and is willing to give up his time to talk to you. You HAVE to study on your own to be successful in class. In a way, I think he's preparing us for UC's. Much of our studying would be on our own anyway.

Teacher wasm't helpful, seemed annoyed when asked questions. You need the textbook to complete online homework, but he never referenced it in class. Lectures were never really related to the homework. There were also a lot of technical problems with the online homework, I ended up hating the class. Think twice before enrolling.

Avoid him at all cost, if you can. He talks about Psych and Sociology stuff in class and doesn't teach Physics. Final was nothing like we had ever done for that class and quiz are often like that too. What others rated him as is true; I had to learn it the hard way. Now I take Physics at diff college b/c I want to learn it and get a good grade.

If you are not planning on going into a science major & thinking of just taking his class because it seems interesting..DON'T! I lost all interest in astronomy because of this teacher. He's arrogant, loves to insult & put his students down! He doesn't track your grade so throughout the class you have NO IDEA of how you're doing! please don't take!

Worst teacher I have ever had! He was very judgmental and arrogant and he never really made sure you understood the material. If you asked a question he would always backhandedly insult you. The saying "those who can't do teach" definitely applies here, but unfortunately he sucks at teaching too. Avoid him!!

For physics, stay away from him. He's one of those people that was in the field and maybe succeeded there, but is incapable of passing his knowledge or even enthusiasm (which is important as a teacher) to others. Unless you already have a background in physics, like you took it back in college already, he honestly sucks.
