Dr. Foley is very passionate about Biochemistry. You learn a lot from his class and he is very inspiring. My advice read the textbook, memorize power point, pay attention in class and take good notes. He is always willing to help if you go see him during his office hours. Good luck!!

I loved Dr. Foley! He presents his material very effectively.. you really learn biochemistry. It isn't easy, but if you know the notes and homework, you will do well on the tests. They're pretty straightforward. I got an A in the class so it is definitely doable. Take this class over 350... you learn a lot more.

CHEM 450/451 was one of the greatest classes I ever took when I was at the U. Dr. Foley knows his stuff and challenges you, but is extremely fair. You learn a lot. I would recommend anyone to take his course if you can handle the material since it is definitely worth it... especially for anyone going into a doctorate program or med school.

He's probably the best teacher I ever had. Lectures by powerpoint and makes sure that students know the material before moving on. Usually puts a day aside before an exam to go over homework problems. The exams are challenging but he is very fair and he's always willing to help in office hours. Lab is fun and you get to work on a research issue.

Excellent teacher. Biochemistry is very hard but he helps you if you go see him. The tests are difficult but fair. You need to know how to apply the concepts you learned to things you have not seen before. If you understand the material well, you will do fine. Dr. Foley knows his stuff and you will really learn it. Great teacher, highly recommend!

Dr. Foley is awesome. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. He is a tough grader with tough tests BUT he definitely goes the extra mile in class to help you understand. So far this semester, we have spent at 4 classes (1hr 15min) just practicing problems and him helping and explaining concepts through the use of practical use in problems.

Dr. Foley is a good teacher, but his tests are hard. I felt like I knew the stuff very well for every test and only got a C in the class. You will learn but don't expect a good grade.

Dr. Foley is the true definition of a great professor. He cares so much about his students and their learning. His tests are very challenging but you learn a lot and he is very motivational. I highly recommend him and this class. Biochemistry is tough but if you put the work into it you will be fine.

Dr. Foley is a great professor. Biochemistry is hard but he breaks everything down well and explains things clearly. The tests are hard the class overall is doable if you study hard. Compared to BioPChem, this class is significantly easier.

Great teacher. Do not listen to the negative ratings.. he's one of the best teachers you can get. Explains the material well and is very helpful in office hours. His tests are only difficult because he requires you to actually think. You'll learn a lot. Biochemistry is hard but it's possible to do well if you study really hard and get help.

Stay away from Foley... not that great of a teacher and tests were really hard. He would test on things you haven't covered yet and even threw biochemistry on a general chem test, which isn't fair. Moved fast at times with minimal explanation. He's very nice which is why it is hard to not like him but just wait until you take his tests...

Please, do yourself a favor and avoid taking Foley. He gives you review sheets, does them in class with you, and then on the test makes things 10x harder and puts things on there you've never seen. Take Rusak instead. Fol is fast and unclear.

Great teacher. Has review sessions before each test where u can ask any question you want. The questions on his test are nothing like the ones he assigns but smart people can make the connections and get the questions right.

AVOID AT ALL COST! All he does is read off of the power point, gives very little in class examples, goes way too fast, and likes to tell stories that have NOTHING to do with chemistry. Rusak is a much better professor. Foley, not so much. Be prepared to learn all about his hockey nights......

there is a difference between being a challenging teacher and being an unfair teacher and he crosses the line. if you know everything perfectly you should get an A on a test, not a C

Dr. Foley is a hard professor. He doesn't always explain things the best and he flies through the notes at times. Assigned problems are tricky, and the tests are hard. BUT, he is incredibly nice, and always willing to help you out in office hours. You have to go to him though. I've heard taking him is a good way to get ready for organic chem.
