Dr. O'Neil is very nice and helpful. The material for this class was really dense with long readings and lectures. He talks a lot and the lectures feel pretty long. Don't waste time taking notes on every little thing he says. There are two exams and a tough term paper. His study guides for the exams are good. The paper is a pretty tough 8-10 page.

Boring lectures, hard grader, only three assignments all semester, doesn't use blackboard, doesn't reply to emails. These are just some of the issues I had with O'Neil. Funny guy, not a great teacher. Expects a lot of his students without giving any help or resources on his end. Would never take again!

He is a nice guy but the class is extremely boring. Lots of reading a pop quesizes. Do not take unless you like history.

His class is easy to pass as long as you take good lecture notes and can write a decent paper. I thought most of his lectures were interesting and I liked his humor. He knows his stuff. The most annoying part of the class was walking to the discussion section in Powers. I got by with not reading my textbook but it's helpful for reference.

Dr. O'Neil was a really funny guy and always has stories that relate to his lecture. The class itself is a lot of writing (WI credit) and is graded tough! There is a lot of reading to be done outside of class and it's very quick paced.

Dr. O'Neil is an incredibly funny guy, and really knows the material that he is teaching. This class is easy to pass so long as you can write academically and go to lectures. The quizzes are not hard so long as you go to lecture and understand the material. Highly respectable man, and I would definitely recommend.

Professor O'Neil is very funny, and his lectures are very entertaining. Nice guy, but the class itself is very hard. Tough grading on the papers and a lot of outside reading.

I absolutely loved Dr. O'Neil's class. He's funny and has some great stories that relate to the material. The grade is from a midterm, a final, and a 10 page paper. I love history but the topic of Europe's history since 1945 had the potential to be awfully boring. Not with Dr. O'Neil! He's certainly one of the best history professors at Central.

Don't take this class, whatever you do. It was suppose to be my easiest class and it is my hardest. Writing is my strong suit and I did not get any higher than a C on any assignment. Lectures are unorganized and the GAs grade so hard. Very unclear instructions, but Mr. O'Neil is a nice man.

He is a fantastic professor, on the other hand this class is awful. it is the worst class i have ever taken, GA give assignments and are very very tough graders. I'm afraid I'm going to fail. there are 4 pop quizzes and one is dropped. Study hard and start papers a week in advance and you should be okay. Horrid class, great professor.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. O'Neil is a great guy and great lecturer, but assignments aren't clear and no grades are put on blackboard. He might be better in other classes, but I'm hoping I will pass this class and I normally get A's and B's.

I'll be totally honest, this class sucked. It takes almost three classes and crams them into one class, so there is a lot of work and sometimes a lot of confusion. Despite all of that; however, I LOVED going to Dr. O'Neil's lectures because he made a subject like history interesting and human-like. Although I didn't like the class, Dr. O'Neil rocks

Great lecturer, sometimes talks really fast so make sure you're a fast writer or bring a computer! He's funny engaging and really helps you out during office hours. If you have the chance I would take History of Michigan with him, he really knows his stuff!!

Really loves his material and knows how to make it interesting. Only six grades go into the class I had: 3 quizzes, midterm, final, and a final paper. Very easy grader too. Show up and you'll pass.

I love O'Neil's class. He's very entertaining and keeps the class engaged. Explains complex concepts in a way that can be understood, and he's a riot. I wish every History class I take could be with him. Entire class is lecture based, with a few "pop" quizzes. He always gives you a heads u and tells you what the quiz will be on. Take his classes!

All lecture so be prepared to write a lot. Gives a few pop quizzes but he will hint that there will be one on a certain day. Exams are decently hard, but the study guide he gives is pretty helpful. If you do not come to class you'll probably get a poor grade or maybe even fail. He does not use blackboard or email at all.

Only three grades, term paper over topic he helps you chose, midterm and final. Each exam has 50ish multiple choice ( get ready for knowing years of things and for lots of people's names) and then an essay ( also 15% of your final grade) that he gives you before hand. The most fun and interesting professor i've ever had. His asides are hilarious.

Most interesting and hilarious prof in this department. You will learn so much, and I really can't stress enough how fascinating and hilarious his lectures and tangents are. It doesn't matter whether you like modern history or not; I promise you, you WILL enjoy this class. Best decision I made that semester.
