Comment:
Very passionate about Shiism and Sufism in particular, so not a lot of time is devoted to more mainstream Islam. However, lectures (while often tangential) were fascinating, often infused with his liberal rants or references to rock and roll. Definitely open about his political opinions, but I think thats a poor excuse to miss out on his classes.

It's hard to decide how you feel about Professor Schubel... he is long-winded, but within his lectures you will usually find a few brilliant and empathetic points. He is very difficult to approach and has a tendency to interrupt students before they can finish their points, which can be frustrating. office hours recommended.

He does not care if you disagree with him, and likes to hear and voice different opinions to show students what is out there. The course will change the way you view Islam by showing you how diverse it is. He is a fair grader and a supportive professor. He is very open minded and respectful. A truly amazing person and professor.

Yes, he's totally arrogant and loves to hear himself talk, but that becomes part of his charm. He's incredibly interesting and intelligent. He values a good conversation and definitely listens to his students' opinions. He expects a lot of you but as long as you actually do the work it's pretty easy.

Horrible professor, worst in the college. I would highly recommend taking a class from any other professor at Kenyon.

Possibly one of the worst teachers or professors I have ever had. He puts more political science in his classes than was in my political science classes. If you are pro-Israel or conservative in any way prepare to hold your views in for fear of getting a lower grade. Awful professor.

Schubel is super passionate and really tries to make the concepts he teaches relevant to his students-hence why he talks about sex, drugs, and rock n' roll a lot (I also feel like this is what he feels is relevant to his life, too). I prefer a more classic approach. I've learned plenty from his classes, though.

Schubel is a brilliant man- one cannot doubt that. He knows what he is talking about. He is passionate about religion. Yet, his lectures are terrible-- too long, boring, too fast. It's hard to understand what he says. He bursts out Arabic words that students don't know the meaning of. Still, his class is easy. 2 tests and 1 essay, that's it.

His politics figure heavily but even if one doesn't agree he is very good at making issues relevant to 2001 (yes i am old) Gambier or 2009 Iraq. Brilliant lecturer but very intimidating to approach. I miss his classes.

As the senior seminar prof this year for INST he wasn't very good. we didn't cover a wide-range of material and mostly listened to him ranting about how the world and the US sucks. However, as a RLST professor he is awesome. knows his stuff and makes it very entertaining. not a hard grader if you write a clear essay

I found Prof. Schuble to be one of the most focused and attuned professors while in class. His knowledge is amazing, his perspective unique. Anyone who has criticism's of him did not listen carefully enough to what he had to teach.

This man is an AMAZING lecturer. Not only was he engaging, but he made me want to be a better person after every class. He was able to put the information in very easy to understand comparisons to every day life. Yes, he's a bit intense in his personal views, just don't tell him you're greek life
